Interesting, I didn't know they had a flemish variant inside France.
I couldn't understand everything, only some parts. I think some of the vowels are shifted - like when he says de boer he probably doesn't mean the farmer, but the neighbour. (buur).
What does she say in the last sentence - something about the "accent flamand".

This is what I think she said. It's not easy to decipher through the accent. I'll defer to any Belgian who has a close enough variant to say otherwise.

So it's not all doom and gloom and lost language. The same fellow who made the above video has a youngster here who is really principally a francophone, but speaks Flemish Dutch as learned at school. This is really standardised Dutch rather than the dialect of those older people, but it's still good to see people keeping that little fire smouldering. I don't know why it's in black and white. She mentions Poperinge, well known for its beer.

Re: Dutch Study Group
I didn't find this word in any dictionary:
gebed - in the sentence "een strijd die gebed was in een stroming die ook op allerlei andere terreinen vrouwen actiever bij maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen wilde betrekken."
But I understand the meaning. It must be a verb made from the word "bed", in the sense "grounded in".

You've probably already read on our Forum about the new OpenAI chatbot. If not, check it out here:
The new ChatGPT is a polyglot, apparently
Today there is a long article on the Neerlandistiek website about this new ChatGPT and how well it does a whole lot of things in Dutch. It seems that the usefulness of the ChatGPT is limited only by our imagination.

And it seems that OpenAI can also do paintings and illustrations.

I think it should be mentioned as fair warning that to even try this out it forces you to make an account then asks for information including your phone number, which I'm not prepared to give.

Grounded in, or its closer equivalent 'embed/embedded'. See inbedden/ingbed.
Hoewel in de loop der eeuwen veel Nederlanders naar Zuid-Afrika zijn geëmigreerd, is het sinterklaasfeest er niet in de cultuur ingebed geraakt.

Right, embedded! That's why gebed looked so familiar.

Re: Dutch Study Group
Fellow Dutch learners, if you like Christmas films, I highly recommend Alles is liefde, if you can get your hands on it.
It is kind of the Dutch version of Love actually, and the same way as the British film, it is no longer politically correct nowadays, because it includes a (really silly) plot around a Zwarte Piet. But I have always loved it.

Re: Dutch Study Group
The Zwarte Piet tradition is interesting. Obviously out of date now and untenable. I'd like to read or watch discussions in Dutch media about the controversies if anyone got any links?
