It's just a group on facebook with the name "Tandem [name of the city]". There's even a more specific group for German-Spanish tandem, but I didn't join that group as the other one seems to be sufficient.

I'd expect there to be also some worldwide penpal groups for language learning.

Some options:

Hellolingo
My Language Exchange
Italki

Well it seems mylanguageexchange.com and italki have worked their magic. I have had several people email me who are interested in being penpals and 3 who look like they may actually email on a regular basis, if I can keep even 1 going that will do me. I love it when a plan comes together. And thanks to all for your suggestions, all very, very much appreciated.

Seems my new plan is coming together....

100 hours speaking practice - Trial booked on italki
Glossika - 5 GSR (minimum) per week.
Writing - 4 replies written after receiving email responses...awaiting responses.
Anki/Quizlet - Anki deck in the making.....will only type answers. 30 minutes (minimum) per day.

Hopefully finish my Anki deck and book another lesson on italki today.

I am hoping to get more than one tutor/partner so I can go over problem areas more than once and I don't end up being too comfortable with just one teacher. I am choosing from community tutors at the moment as I just want to activate my passive knowledge and bridge the huge cavern I have between comprehension and production (I don't really want to add to the problem with more studying). If anyone has any advice regarding italki or tutoring/speaking practice in general please do let me know...

So far a most constructive day :D

Thanks westminstress. I am really nervous about the lesson, so much so, I booked another one to take my mind off it

I now seem to have lots of people interested in exchanging emails... although I'm sure most will give up pretty quickly.

I have made a written answers only deck in Anki. I took all the past tense sentences from Glossika level 1 and created a deck with 241 cards.

Two trial lessons booked on italki, although one teacher is insisting on working through a book, we shall see how it goes...both are this week

I was looking at the Output Challenge which has 50,000 words and 50 hours of recorded speech as it's targets over a year. Since there is only 2 months left I thought I might set myself a mini challenge of 8000 words and 8 hours of speaking on italki, since I will probably only speak for 50% of the time I will double this to 16 hours of italki lessons.

So my challenge for the rest of 2017 is....
ITalki - 16 hours speaking practice
Glossika - finish level 1 again but really drill it, no moving on until all sentences mostly correct, I am currently on lesson 59.
Writing - 8000 words, hopefully mostly emails with my lovely new penpals.
Anki - 241 sentences mastered. I shall start at 10 new cards a day a see how I get on.

So that's it, all set up and ready to go. I have a feeling I may have set my bar a bit high but what's the point of a challenge if it's not a challenge?

Now I just need to update my progress bars :D

A challenge needs balance. It has to be hard enough to actually be a challenge, but it also has to be "easy" enough for you to not build up frustration and give up early on.

Wise words :)

If I complete 1 or 2 of my challenges by the end of 2017 I will be happy. Maybe I should look at this as more of an ideal than a challenge?

I would suggest that you choose one of the goals as your actual challenge and think of the others as pluses: focus mainly on your actual challenge, and when you feel tired of it, then switch to one of the pluses and then go back to your actual challenge. If you achieve your challenge early, then you can upgrade one of your pluses as your new challenge. ;)
