Week 24

New Year, new projects

Since 2010 French and Italian are the only languages I was seriously trying to improve. English and German were on hold and I was hoping to bring them to the same C? level once I reach the point that can be qualified as "high fluency" with the other two languages. This point is not far away but still there is a lot of work to be done.

I never planned to start with a new language. Sometimes when I read lots of inspiring logs on this forum, I wonder how it would be to learn some new exotic language. It always sounded exciting but I was never brave enough to start with it.

However, things in life are changing and often (always?) we can't influence their development. I like this mystic side of life; can't we just accept that life has its plans for us and that some of these plans might be very exciting?

So, in March I am starting to learn Polish. Last time I was starting a new language I was 14 years old. In my middle 30's, it might be the right time for my first (foreign) Slavic language. I don't know any Polish word; I don't have any expectations and don't plan any additional activities, except the weekly courses. From time to time I might write here some impressions.

The rest of the my time I will devote to French and Italian.

French

High priorities:
1. Speaking (with native speakers)
2. Langue familière/argot (blogs, forums, series, films)
3. Films/TV (lower registers)
4. Extensive reading (novels)
5. Intensive reading (newspaper articles)

Medium priorities
1. Listening (podcasts)
2. Writing (posting here)
3. Pronunciation exercises
4. Grammar

Week 25

Italiano

Week 26

French

Grammar. This is my new grammar book:
Image
I plan to use it occasionally when I find some free time; it would be great to read all 430 pages in next X months. The first 26 pages were very useful.

Finally finished reading of Stefan Zweig's Confusion des sentiments (130 pages). In addition, I invested cca 6 hours in listening of his autobiographic novel Le monde d'hier. If you're interested, you can find the audio book on You-tube. Both of them are great novels.

Local newspapers last weekend. :P

Italian

Finishing my language course with two exams in next two weeks. Instead of the classes I plan to continue my self-learning with the textbook Un giorno in Italia 2.

Week 27

Italiano
