Moderation inquiry

Postby lavengro » Thu Feb 24, 2022 6:07 pm

I have had one of my posts deleted. I am not overly-surprised, but I am a little surprised that I have not received notice of the deletion from the moderation team, nor an explanation as to why my post was deleted.

My post arguably violated forum rules forbidding swearing (my post had a decidedly salty word in it), discouraging personal attacks (yep, decidely a feature of my post) and discouraging discussions about politics (arguably a feature of my deleted post).

In the absence of an explanation for the post deletion, I am going to assume it was not because of an arguably political nature to the post (lord knows there are all sorts of explicitly political postings on this forum over the last couple of years), but please let me know if that assumption is not correct in my case. Or if it is a matter of this policy applying only to some but not all posters, that would be helpful to know as well.

The discouragement about personal attacks (my post was about a political leader, not a forum member or heavens forfend a public polyglot figure) I had understood from the published rules (https://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2968) was a matter of a discussion with a moderator, rather than a without notice deletion.

So, my assumption, again in the absence of any communication about the reason for deletion, was the presence of super salty language - unusual languge for me but language driven by circumstances.

Accordingly, can I safely assume that if I repurpose my now deleted post and take out the one swear word, I am good to go? If the concern is a personal attack, if I repurpose my post to comment on a country`s actions rather than an individual leader`s directions, I assume that would be alright?

Many thanks for any response - either in this thread on via the PM feature on this site.

It was deleted because of politics. It had also been reported by 3-4 other forum members, some who might have reported for swear words, some for politics. But I deleted it because of politics.

So is it okay for me to swear?

To have talked much and read much is of more value in learning to speak and write well than to have parsed and analysed half a library.

Heck no!

Well, in looking into it, it seems like one swear word gets through for some posters, although I have not had much success in trying that....

ETA: just on a quick analysis from previous posts, it seems the F word is okay when applied to Belgium, romance, science fiction, the healthcare system, grammar, special shout out to German grammar, "those goddamned students," being pale AF and anxious AF, and one poster apparently having a bad day and swingingly wildly for the fence with a "F*** it in it's (sic) stupid as* without lube" about the year 2020.

Thanks. I REDACTED most of them. However, I did leave a number of them in the discussion about swear words. This is because the rules do state that when discussing swear words as a feature of languages, then more leniency is applied.

lol. Those who study German probably wholly agree though. :D

I'm grateful to be rebuked in argument because then I learn something. I don't want to be wrong, but I'm so happy to be.
