I have read out a review from Tripadvisor. I know this text by heart and can do passages faster but have to formulate them in my head first.

I think I'm carrying lots of glottal stops from my German into my Spanish when I speak too slowly. This takes away fluency. "Discurso conectado" in Spanish ha ha.

for instance:

"que /glottal stop/estaban completos"
"me pilló /una tormenta"
"acordando /un precio"
"se me acercó / el dueno"
"verme / empapado / y"
"las / habitaciones
"una / habitación"
"y que / igual

Topics that matter, read around your interests

Olly Richards begins a new series: “Topics that Matter”.

I have a golden rule when it comes to learning a new language:

“Read around your interests!”

When you read about the topics you love in your new language the benefits are immeasurable:

You see new words in context and internalise grammar naturally
You remember more of what you read because it's meaningful to you
Learning is so much fun you can't wait to come back for more!

The only problem?

Finding interesting material designed specifically for your current level can be difficult.

And that's why I've designed a brand new series of language books!

Introducing... “Topics that Matter”.

This brand new series brings you books about interesting and topical subjects in Spanish, written at a suitable level for learners.

Our first topic? (No, it’s not Covid!).

Climate Change in Simple Spanish

This book is designed specifically for intermediate level (B1-B2) and is written in a fun, conversational style.

But that's not all:

The book is reviewed at PhD level, so that all the facts are as accurate as possible
It is entirely a-political, so you can make up your own mind without feeling like you're getting a lecture.
It is only $0.99 on Kindle!

This book is my first foray into non-fiction, and I couldn't be prouder of it.

Inside, you’ll can find all the great learning tools you have come to love, such as:

Natural dialogues
Useful vocabulary
Native-like expressions

But that's not all. The book is also filled with all of the material you will need to learn more about climate change:

Topic-specific vocabulary
Useful key-facts summarising the learning points of each chapter
Illustrations and graphs to help you visualise what you are reading
Detailed bibliographies so that you can discover even more resources

It really is not to be missed!

Polyglot vs. Linguist: The Best Strategies to Learn a New Language

How Did This Polyglot Learn Spanish and 13 Other Languages? Meet Luca Lampariello!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFBUZ5aRSVg

Are you wondering what you should do to learn Spanish? Well, I have a nice surprise for you today!

I chatted—in both English and Spanish—with Spring Spanish teacher Mariana to discuss some strategies for learning Spanish or any language in a fun and easy way! Basically, I shared my ideas and experience as a polyglot, and she elaborated on those ideas and made other suggestions from the perspective of an applied linguist and as part of the Spring Spanish collective.

A translator reveals his method to speak perfect German

Basically it's back translation - like Lampariello - but with a strong component of "literal" (and partly "wrong") translation to get to the complexity of German syntax and morphology.
