More Parlons, not much new to report. I finished the medical section of the conversational dialogues today.

I did lessons 31 and 32 in my Assimil course and am starting to learn more new words.

Today's reading in Parlons discussed words and phrases related to shopping, buying things and the mail, which is rather useful. Much of this was review, but I still learned several new words.

Catalan :
Today I did lessons 33 and 34 of the Assimil course. I am finally getting to the point where there are more numerous unknown words, but I would not say that the lessons have yet become "hard".

Today's section of Parlons, discussed business vocabulary. Here I learned numerous new words, which will be certainly useful when I start my mining company in Ukraine.

Catalan :
Today I did lessons 35 and 36 of the Assimil course. The review lesson 35 introduced the conditional, which is near-identical to that in Spanish.

Ukrainian :
Today's Parlons reading continued the business affairs dialogues. I was pleasantly surprised how much I could understand. I could recognize enough grammar and basic vocabulary to understand the skeletons of the sentences, and between English and French I could even understand a lot of the more complex, "technical" business vocabulary.

I also acquired a book called 100 Easy Ukrainian Texts. So far these texts have been indeed extremely easy and quite short, so I decided instead of reading them, to transcribe them, in order to improve my handwriting.

Today I did lessons 37 and 38 of the Assimil course. Nothing really different from normal today.

I finished chapter III of the Parlons book. Today's section discussed the norms of letter writing, which seems rather important to know. I would imagine that emails are written mostly the same way. I also transcribed another passage from my100 Easy Ukrainian Texts book.

Ukrainian :
I started reading chapter IV of the Parlons book today. The first sections provided a brief introduction to Ukrainian literature along with a discussion of the origins of Ukrainian names. I was interested to learn that pagan Ukraine had a similar "number based" name system as did ancient Rome. I also continued copying passages from my book of easy texts.

I also discovered Olonkho today, and now I want to learn Yakut. I wonder if there are any books for it which are any good. I imagine there would be some in Russian. Hmm, now I have another reason to improve my Ukrainian, so I can access those.

I finished chapter IV of the Parlons course today. The second half discussed food, popular festivals and other such cultural things. It was rather unusual to read about a culture among which I live from such a dispassionate outside perspective.

I started chapter V, the literary excerpts today. The first text was the Отче наш, which I transcribed.

Ukrainian :
I started transcribing the second text, an excerpt from Дві руські народості by Микола Костомаров. This will take a few days, as it is rather dense and I can only write so much in one day. Without the aid of the translation I would be totally lost, but with the help of that I can understand a fair bit.
