Je lus le chapitre XLVII du Comte de Monte-Cristo et le chapitre III du cinquième livre du tome I des Misérables. Rien de très remarquable.

Catalan :
Today I did lessons 11 and 12 in my Assimil course. I still have not gotten far enough to be learning anything new, but the review is helping, especially in my listening comprehension. I probably should start writing my Catalan log entries in Catalan, but that sounds like it will take more effort than I want to expend.

Ukrainian :
I read approximately the first half of the last chapter of my grammar book. This final chapter discusses conjunctions, and, again, is more about memorizing vocabulary than charts of inflections or lists of rules. Almost done!

I did it! I finished my grammar! I am much too tired now to try writing anything in Ukrainian, however. I shall start reading the Parlons book tomorrow if I have time, and perhaps I shall try writing a bit then.

I did lessons 13 and 14 in my Assimil Catalan course today. I finally reached some vocabulary I did not already know, which is nice. Still progressing rapidly, as it is pretty much all review.

Hui jo vaig fer les lliçons 15 i 16 del meu curs del català. Hi havia unes paraules que no coneixia, però, en general, era més revisió. Però la revisió és sempre bona.

Today I did lessons 17 and 18 in my Assimil course. Again, there were a few new words, but still mostly review.

Greek :
I had my Greek "lesson" today. We discussed lesson 21 of my book, which was pretty easy. The lesson introduced the subjunctive, and one of the readings discussed the ancient Olympian pantheon : learning the names of the various gods in Greek was interesting.

J'avais un examen aujourd'hui, pour mon cours de littérature français. Je crois que je fis bien, mais je ne sais pas. En addition, je lus le chapitre L du Comte de Monte-Cristo et le chapitre VI du livre V du tome I des Misérables.

I continued the chapter 2 of the Parlons book today. I read it quite quickly, since it is pretty much all review of stuff I read in my grammar. The next section of the chapter is on the origins of Ukrainian vocabulary, which seems interesting.

Not much today, as I had other things to do and did not feel well.

Catalan :
Today I did lessons 21 and 22 of the Assimil course. Already over a fifth of the way through, which is very nice.

Ukrainian :
I continued reading the Parlons book. Today's section was on the origins of Ukrainian vocabulary, which was quite interesting, albeit perhaps not too useful. I knew that there were many words in Ukrainian of Polish origin, but I was not aware that many of those words actually originally came from German, which was interesting. In addition, many proper nouns of Western European origin, such as place names, also were filtered through Polish, which explains why the Ukrainian names for Western European cities are often so odd.

I am not sure how useful any of this information will be, but I learned how to say things like "Enemy of the people" and "The will of the people and the party are one." so that's fun, I suppose.

Ukrainian :
Today's section of Parlons Ukrainien discussed the differences between Ukrainian and Russian, including a long list of false friends and different words, as well as a brief discussion of the differences in grammar and phonology. I have little real desire to learn Russian, and I quite strongly dislike the way it sounds, but I cannot deny that it would be an extremely practical language to know, as well as one which possesses a very rich literary tradition, so I feel that I should at least become capable of reading it. However, that will not come for a very long time.

Today I started the conversational dialogue section of the Parlons course, the beginning of which focused on very basic things such as introductions, salutation and such. I am not really yet sure how I will most effectively internalize all the information presented in this section. There is clearly a lot of it, but it will take me some time to figure out how to best use the book.

Catalan :
Today I did lessons 25 and 26 of my Assimil book. I am quite content to already be one quarter finished and it is progressing nicely.

I continued reading the conversational dialogue Parlons course, in which I did learn a few useful words, although I am still somewhat uncertain how I ought best to use this section. Perhaps I shall simply put the words into Memrise although that seems like it would result in a lot of reduplication of words I have learned repeatedly.

Catalan :
Today I did lessons 27 and 28 of the Assimil Catalan course. Lesson 28, a grammatical lesson introduced the imperfect tense, which I already had learned before, but reviewing the irregular forms was helpful.
