There is a language log section of the forum. You just go there and do a new topic and that topic is your log. You can follow the logs of other members of the study group by looking at the very first page of this thread which lists them.

Welcome aboard.

Btw, after you start your log, let us know here and we'll add your log to the list.

With this pandemic, I discovered -?- the fun of reading contemporary french novels. I mean 'non-translated-. I sense that English translated into French novels do not feel right. Native french language sounds more beautiful to me. So far I have read

Jean-Christophe Grange
Le passager - almost finishing
Le Serment des Limbes
la Ligne Noire

Bernard Minier
Une putain d'histoire

I would love to venture into other authors similar to those. I noticed that I missed about 1-2 % of the words/page. So I definitely, I am graduating myself to adult literature. No more HP stories. No more easy and boring books. Raw French for me. No classic novels either. -Maybe later. I would love some book suggestions. My criteria are: contemporary, beautiful and engaging. No romance, nop, but thrillers would be nice. I like well written Polars. Which writers, books, series, etc?

I’ve not read any of the books you mention, but I enjoyed La vérité sur l’affaire Harry Quebert by Joel Dicker. A fairly easy to read polar, and if you enjoy it Le Livre des Baltimore was good too. Michel Bussi books are slightly more challenging - try Un avion sans elle or Gravé dans le sable.

If you want something slightly more refined try En attendant Bojangles by Olivier Bourdeaut. I found it difficult to read, but it’s short and beautifully written (or at least it seemed it to me as an intermediate French learner!).

Good. Thanks. I am ordering:

Un avion sans elle - Michel Bussi
La vérité sur l'affaire Harry Quebert - Joel Dicker
Les particules Elementaires - Michel Houellebecq

Other recommendations.... ?

I totally agree with your enthusiasm for contemporary French fiction and would offer for your enjoyment a thread I set up for that purpose at:

@lusan: You may also have a look at the books of Franck Thilliez and Olivier Norek.

Merci
