I recommend having a look at the patterns, repeating them a few times. I like Iversen's overviews or any other way to stick to the table for while will help too. But that is just the beginning.
What I like the best is drilling the forms with srs in this format:
Q: io ESSERE presente
A: sono
No translation to confuse you, just drilling the forms, one bit of information at a time. That removes a huge roadblock efficiently. The SRS will let you move on from the stuff you find easy very fast (usually the things people internalise very fast just from observing the pattern), and spend time on things that won't stick for any reason (which is not necessarily limited to the irregular verbs. Everybody has some "stupid mistakes" that resist unlearning usually
It won't help much with how they are used (neither will the tables, that is not their purpose), that's what tons of input, explanations, ad exercises are for. But it can really help with mastering the forms faster and lets you use the correct forms automatically. Many people stuck at a certain not too high level struggle exactly with this (including myself for now, as I haven't had the time to drill Italian this way yet) and think they just need to speak more. Nope, that might just fossilise the confusion, while the drills remove it and let you focus on other stuff
