You're not a C1 (or B1 or whatever) if you haven't tested.

Yeah, for the groupies and to denote what I've done. The groupies are suspiciously lacking though

I've tried to keep a log on the forum in order to practice my English skills, but I found it extremely time consuming, so I gave up, sort of... Since my main focus is to read and listen I thought that it would be a waste of time. Let me be honest, I only use my target languages to read and enjoy movies, youtube videos and tv shows. Even speaking is something I do not need, although English is very useful for travelling.
Lately I've been thinking of restarting my log, but I would be writing on it only in my native language (or sometimes in English). Of course I wouldn't get my readers though...

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
There are few other places where it feels logical to write in as many languages as you can manage - but I'm aware that some readers skip those parts that aren't in English or one of their own target languages. That being said, I do however write more text in English than most members do - just with something else in between.
Or maybe people dislike my slightly nerdish choice of topics, but I write about the things I like to read about, and as far as I can see I haven't scared everybody away yet.

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
I like to write.
But the reason I write in the log is simply because of the replies and responses I get. Words of encouragement, hints, tips, resources and sometimes just good old conversations! So please feel free to write in my log! I love the interaction. If all I were doing was recording what I'd studied, I'd have quit years ago.

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
Thank you all for your considered replies. I guessed at some of the reasons given, but not all of them.
I’ve been keeping a log of my learning, but privately. Like some of you, I find the self-reflective process of writing an entry often sparks ideas about ways to improve. I guess I was curious about the additional benefits that sharing a log publicly might bring. You’ve helped me get an insight, and I shall consider starting one.
Thanks again.

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
I have created a log purely to help populate a plausible backstory for my assigned identity after being dragged (unwillingly, I might add) into a source witness protection programme after getting transitioned across the border. If "Lefty" Kincaid pops around asking any questions, do me a solid and pretend you know me, and tell him that while I am not a particularly good language learner, it is unlikely that I am a rat.

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
I keep a log to now and then remind myself of what I've been doing over the years. It seems that I have followers and that they also appreciate my posts.

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
Writing the log is a reflective process which helps me make sense of things and, hopefully, makes me a better learner. Knowing that other people may read my log helps to give my writing some focus in a way that I would miss if I was writing it just for me.
It's nice to have some interaction with other experienced learners if I've hit a particular stumbling block. And I'd like to think that my log is of occasional practical use to people who read it.

Re: Why do you write a language log here?
I keep a log because it helps to keep me motivated since I'm a procrastinator and am prone to not do anything but read Italian or English otherwise. When I have time I will read all the logs but when time is limited I only read the ones that cover the same languages I study. I like to see what sources other people use, what methods they use as well as share my own in hopes it will help others.
