Background: I took a beginner course in early 2019 and took the DLPT in May 2019, got a 1L/2R.
Goal: I enjoyed it and was amazed at my DLPT scores. I think it would be cool to get it to 1+/1+ levels, at which point my employer would pay for some instruction with a teacher!
Now: I have found some Italian audiobook and ebook versions of the books I want to read, so that should be less of a problem than with BCS.
0: Read the book in English;
1: Listen to it in Italian while following along in the ebook in Italian;
2: Listen to it in Italian while reading it in English;
3: Repeat step 2 till I'm sick of it.
Before and after I'll take the dialang Italian listening and reading to see where I am.

Errr... I think that is the LR method in a nutshell. :)

yeah, but that's the only one that is L-R in that list of 3. ;)

So, if I didn't have kids' college tuition to worry about, I would have gotten a PhD in Linguistics years ago. One area that greatly interests me is endangered languages. For years I've wanted to watch the film The Linguists. Unfortunately, I've never caught it on PBS nor did I ever want to spend the over hundred dollars for a DVD of it.

But because of what is going on now, the production company has offered the film online for rental. For ten bucks I had the best hour-or-so this afternoon. What a great film. I have a secret desire to offer myself up as free labor to a linguistics department when I retire for use however they want to use me, specifically dealing with endangered languages. It would be so wonderful to help.

If you have the time and money, I would recommend you rent this movie; I'm not too sure how long they'll have it on offer. Two thumbs up.

I had no luck finding "Angels & Demons" and "The Da Vinci Code", although I did find audio books for "Origin" and "The Lost Symbol".

Have class in an hour, so probably that'll be it for today. Also went through the intro to my Coptic class again, and wrote up a table with the alphabet, sounds and transliteration for each letter.

She killed me tonight with the listening passages. Three of them, all "man on the street" type interviews, with tons of background noise. Perfect for DLPT practice but oy, so hard to answer the questions.

My head hurts now. Thankfully, I've got a new episode of Top Chef to watch and I have plenty of beer!

Happy VE day! Here's some pics from VE day on Red Square in 2012.

SC tracking:
-29 minutes of S1E3 of Dead to me in Russian;
-47 minutes of Орел и решка, and they're in Moscow! How the one woman afforded two days in Moscow for $70-odd, amazing.

Also read through lesson 1 of the Coptic textbook.

Went exploring on Netflix, and there are tons of shows now with subtitles and/or audio in Russian! I'm so excited.

What a coincidence! I also just learned about Coptic. I'm watching the Great Courses Ancient Egypt lecture series. :)
