NaNoWriMo 2019

Postby IronMike » Sat Sep 21, 2019 7:52 pm

Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year? My daughter's done it 3 years running. I'm thinking of doing it this year.

devilyoudont wrote:I'm not going to be able to participate this year, but I'm currently trying to establish a hobby of being creative, so maybe next year I'll be able to give it a shot. But I'm cheering for all of you who are gonna try :)

How about it devilyoudont? If you do I will!

I've done a lot of times. Last year I had a go at doing it in Italian, but it was too difficult. What language are you doing it in?

English! Oh dear God. Not even gonna attempt something like this in another language. Hard enough to write anything in my native language. ;)

I'm doing it! This'll actually be my tenth year, as it turns out, so that's pretty exciting. I did try to do NaNo in German once (seven years ago now, my God) but didn't get anywhere with that... I might try a little language challenge version alongside my main one this year, but I'm really excited to get started on an English story and I'm on holiday until the 5th November so think I'm going to be busy enough as it is!

hummm... I have just worked out that I have been a Nanowrimo member for 13 years, and I've "won" only 4 times and participated only 7 times.

That sounds like my stats too. I'm not sure how far back I first signed up but it was a good number of years ago. At least 13 years. It had gotten big by the time I started, but nothing like it is now. But a couple of years back I accepted that NaNo has never been a very constructive endeavor for me, that's it's too disruptive for all the other things in my life and by pressuring myself to write creatively with my current living situation and health problems, especially in the weeks leading up to major holidays, that I was being unfair to myself. My Novembers have been much happier as result. Good luck to anyone doing it, but yeah, I think I'm done with NaNo for good at this point.

Are there any projects that run concurrent to Nano which are shorter? I'd like to go for something, and I would maybe have fun doing it in Esperanto, but I don't think I'll stick with it if I try for 50k

I'm participating! I'm going to work on two novellas in my native language, English. You know what? Since I'm already being a rebel by working on two novellas, I think I'll try writing something in Spanish. I could try my hand at writing a nonfiction art history book in Spanish.

You can just be a NaNoWriMo Rebel, which is what I am doing this year. I use NaNoWriMo for the extra motivational boost and the community. The 50k word goal is less of a concern for me. Also, I would just stress myself out trying to reach that number if I fall behind.
