Italian Film Club (proposal)

Postby kanewai » Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:52 pm

Would anyone be interested in taking part in an Italian Film Club?

This is still a half-baked idea, but: I just started listening to a podcast on Federico Fellini from Alle otto della sera, and thought it would be fun to pair the podcast with his films. And then I thought: it would be even more fun to see if I can get a group together, rather than to just post stuff on my own log.

If folks are interested, I'd propose that we start with Fellini in July, and watch or listen to whatever catches your fancy, and then talk about it here. After that we could model it after the Forum Book Club and vote on a director, actor, theme, etc for each coming month.

I know it's August now but I would be interested in an Italian Film Club. I need to expand my knowledge of Italian cinema and work on my listening skills.

I'd be interested too. I thought this sounded good back in June, but I wasn't studying Italian at the time. Recently got back into it though, and there are lots of great Italian films I haven't seen and would like to. I can also recommend a couple I have seen and would gladly watch again.

I'll pipe in now. I'm in. As long as I can get the film on Netflix, Prime, Hulu or YoutubeTV.

This might be harder than I realized. I made a couple of watch-lists, but the movies were spread over many different and obscure channels, all of which required a subscription. You can't even buy or rent the classic movies! You have to subscribe. The golden age of streaming is already over.

I don't think that basing it around or limiting it to particular subscription services will be very productive since there are many of them, different people use different ones if any, and the availability of films depends on the region. Netflix UK for example has about ten Italian films and I watched them all years ago. I can't offer a better alternative though...
