Especially La Méditerranée et le Monde méditerranéen à l'époque de Philippe II by Fernand Braudel. I am a serious history buff and love Braudel but never thought of reading him in French.
Also Agota Kristof with his Le grand cahier, La preuve and Le troisième mensonge. He is totally new to me but sounds like something I could be really drawn to.
"Stark and haunting." - The San Francisco Chronicle; "A vision of considerable depth and complexity, a powerful portrait of the nobility and perversity of the human heart." - The Christian Science Monitor.
