"Diccionario Reverso" is an excellent tool which offers many hyperlinks: Spanish-German/French/English dictionaries, reverso context, images, encyclopedia, news, web, example sentences.

With the help of Firefox's addon "Pop-Up Dictionary by R Leung" it can be turned into a pop up dictionary. Dictionaries other than reverso can also be included in the setting (wordreference etc...)

By using the setting "pop-up window" you can overcome the blocking of mixed content

The popup window is scrollable, movable & resizable.

Hello group. I have a blog and a youtube channel both in spanish. They are not conceived to teach spanish itself, but I talk about language learning, so perhaps you can consider my content relevant in some way and practice a bit with this topic. The links are in my signature.

Para quienes aún no los conozcan, los chicos de Videópatas se dedican a contar historias y a hacer reír a la gente desde su canal de YouTube, actualmente uno de los más populares de España (y probablemente uno de los mejores para aprender vocabulario coloquial).

Modifying my method

So far I have been practising/consolidating etc via bi-directional translation (1)

recreated/memorized little stories, often hotel reviews, with the help of key words from the text(while on a swingstepper and pulling rubber bands hanging from above) (2)

I have tried drawing a story. This works well if the stories are linear and contain scenes that can be visualized easily (3)

I am now adding "consecutive translation": I record my German translation of a text, listen to it and try to translate it back into Spanish IN A LOUD VOICE , at the beginning with an eye on the Spanish text. I control the speed and length with a remote. (4)

You remember more of what you read out loud

Oral production is effective because it has two distinctive components, a motor or speech act and a personal auditory input, the researchers explain. “[The] results suggest that production is memorable in part because it includes a distinctive, self-referential component. This may well underlie why rehearsal is so valuable in learning and remembering,” the study concludes. “We do it ourselves, and we do it in our own voice. When it comes time to recover the information, we can use this distinctive component to help us to remember.”

Notably, there was a significant advantage in hearing a recording of the self over hearing another person read. “This suggests that part of the advantage ordinarily seen in the production effect is hearing one’s own voice–the self-referential component–above and beyond the benefit conferred by auditory information,” the study says.

Hearing your own voice saying information boosts the likelihood that it will stick to your memory. This trick can be used not just by students but adults and seniors working on recall, says MacLeod.
