I've never understood the color schemes. I finally got one of the bigger stars after hitting > 50 books.

I'm sure surrealix summed it up somewhere but I can't find it.
The badges are for sprints and streaks. On a computer you can hover a badge and see what it means. A sprint is 1 book AND 1 film (bronze), two (silver) or five (gold), all completed in the last two weeks.
For streaks, you get a bronze badge for 5 weeks, silver badge for 10 weeks and golden badge for 20 weeks.
The badge with the ribbon above the circle/medal is for sprints (it's on the left if there are two badges). The badge with the ribbons below the circle is for streaks.
(I thought my post explained most of this )

As for the stars, again, you get larger stars for completing books AND movies. You get a bronze star for 50, silver star for 100, gold star for 200, platinum (?) star for 400. You can see that in the summary of the previous challenge http://www.languagechallenge.surrealix.com

Language: English
Challenge: Full
Current level: B2
Comments, links: I'm not expecting to get into big trouble completing the films, but sitting for reading will be a real challenge.
Books: I intend to use a mix of classics and some technical books.
Films: I'm using mostly podcasts with some actual movies here and there.
I'm also doing some pronunciation work on the side and would focus on output later.
I hope this effort will help my understanding of English to get smoother.

Language: Russian
Challenge: Half
Current level: sub-A1
Comments: I know this is late in the day, but I thought I would give Russian a try in addition to my Romance Languages and German challenges. I don't know enough Russian yet to feel comfortable extensively reading and watching in the language, so I'm going to focus primarily on using the L-R method to get through books and audiobooks. I've already done some test runs to make sure I can L-R Russian (fortunately, I spent a few hours with Russian when I was a kid and learned the alphabet then, but really I started L-R'ing Russian pretty much from scratch). I will of course count all that I've already done, since the challenge was ongoing.

L-R'ing Russian is a lot harder than L-R'ing another Romance/Germanic language, but it's certainly doable, although I've noticed interlinear and dual language books provide a much bigger benefit here than they ever did when L-R'ing my easier languages. I'm not going to make Russian my main focus, but I am trying to get a foundation down for the language, which I can build on more later. I'm hoping that this half challenge will help get me to a level where I can just sit down and read a book or watch a show or movie in Russian and understand enough to know what's going on and to learn from context. Then I can really use extensive reading/listening as my main learning method (while looking up some grammar and vocab along the way--Russian grammar is definitely not intuitive).

Adding a half challenge for Spanish to my current two full challenges for French and Gaelic

Language: Spanish
Challenge: Half
Level: B1(?)

Comments: Even though it's pretty late in the challenge, I didn't want to wait until next April for when the next challenge starts to do something like this with Spanish. My video content will mostly be movies and TV shows from Netflix and local Spanish-language TV stations, and my reading will be mostly e-books or books from my local library.

Is it possible to do a double challenge for watching and half a challenge for reading? Or do the watching and reading challenges have to match up? And can I change that now?

You're not a C1 (or B1 or whatever) if you haven't tested.

Sorry I missed this. The bot can't handle combinations like those you mentioned (but you get a bronze star for completing a half challenge in both, and some extra stars for the movies).
To change your challenge just post your updated info like IronMike did on the previous page. You can list your actual goals in the Comments: line.
