In their Fall Warehouse Clearance catalogue, Great Courses advises the following:

Great Courses in CD Format -- CD Closeout Sale! -- While Supplies Last
"As demand for the physical CD format declines, we are shifting our focus from creating CDs to developing and delivering the best possible digital audio experience to our customers. You will continue to be able to purchase and access all your favourite audio titles by downloading or streaming them. These options are as easy to use, highly accessible, and just as seamless as the disc format -- but without the physical CDs. If you really love using CDs, may sure you pick up your favourites from out next few catalogues because some of the won't be around much longer."

Great Courses Apps -- Offline Use
"You asked for it! We listened. Now you can download audio and video lectures to your favourite smartphone or tablet so that you can enjoy them later, even when you're not connected to the internet. Look for more enhancements to your apps! Available at the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore."

I just got the catalogue and A New History of the American South is not listed. Good luck with the French.

I checked out their subscription service, but apparently it's not available in the country (!!) of the European Union or Guam because payments are too difficult to process.

If you are interested in the Great Courses and live in Europe, then you must use their British site:

https://www.thegreatcourses.co.uk/

The prices are in British pounds and the usual services are from here available also for Europeans. The only downside is, that new courses appear with some delay on the British site. But apart from that, I have been a happy customer for nearly 10 years and never had any problems with this company.

But that's for the CDs isn't it? I wanted a monthly subscription so I could listen by my phone using the Great Courses app. I don't think that's available for EU subscribers, for no good reason as far as I can tell.

That's weird. I downloaded the app the other day, and it specifically says that they do not process payments from the country (sic) of the European Union due to payment processing difficulties. Perhaps the text is just wrong - the UK is still in the EU until March next year after all.

Thank you Speakeasy for your very helpful review. Your great review was the reason I found this site, purchased the course, and now have joined this forum.

Could someone tell me how to search this forum to find out other French resources similiar to, "Learning French: A Rendezvous with French"?

Heads up: The "Rendez-vous with French Cultures" video course is now on-sale for $70.

Download 30 video lectures to your computer or mobile app
Downloadable PDF of the course guidebook
FREE video streaming of the course from our website and mobile apps

The website says it works on apple devices, roku, google play, and kindle fire. We'll see.

Like Speakeasy, I'll be using this course as a refresher. I've worked through Assimil (both levels), FSI, and Pimsleur (all five levels), and am comfortable with French novels and podcasts - but my active skills are weak. I still need to do some proper study every couple years to work on them. I don't think I can face working my way through FSI a second time, so this should be an interesting experiment.

I'll post reviews once I get to it. It might not be for a couple months, but I figure I should grab the course while it's on sale.

Sadly, the Spanish courses are still over $300. That's not gonna happen. Since I'm here, I looked up the other courses:

Language Courses on sale
Latin 101 - $70
Classical Greek 101 - no
Learning Spanish - no
Learning Spanish II - no
Learning French - $70
English Grammar Boot Camp - $50
Decoding the Secrets of Egyptian Hieroglyphs - $40
2 x
Super Challenge - 50 books
Italian: 11 / 50
Spanish: 50 / 50
French: 16 / 50

The obvious answer to that question in French In Action - in fact, the two together would mesh quite well.
