Shyness can be overcome. Some of the big polyglots are actually quite reclusive, they just appear to be less so when speaking foreign languages (i.e. me) :D

You can do this! It seems you've got a good plan in place and are determined. Good job :)

I don't think I'm shy necessarily (I'm a social introvert, I love being social but being around people costs me a lot of energy  ), just shy when speaking a foreign language that I'm not confident in. Especially when there is an alternative (i.e. English) available :)

I think my best language exchange right now is with a Russian guy who only just started learning Dutch. Not only are we non-stop bombarding each other with questions during the day (which is nice!), speaking also isn't so embarrassing for either of us  It's actually amazingly helpful! Whereas my other exchange was with someone who speaks Dutch quite well and I just end up feeling incompetent. I'm just being silly, I know...

Thank you for your faith in me! I'm also feeling quite confident about my plan :D I've been speaking at least a bit every day, and noticing some improvement already.

SC update:

Japanese (half challenge)
Reading: 7 books, 349 pages (total)

Watching: 38.8 films, 3,489 minutes (total)
31 Aug 2018 そして父になる 121 minutes
02 Sep 2018 タンポポ 114 minutes

I've seen both of these movies before and love both of them. Like Father Like Son (そして父になる) has an absolutely amazing performance by my favourite 長崎人 Masaharu Fukuyama (I'll never get tired of looking at this man, I swear). Actually, everyone is pretty brilliant in it.

And Tampopo (タンポポ) is currently playing at my local cinema (digitally remastered!) so I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to see it again. What a gem.

Hahahaha ok, this looks more impressive than it is. Lots of short podcasts, both Slow Russian and TPRS Russian. I'm trying to do a little TPRS every day to practice pronunciation for the 6 Week Challenge. By the way, apparently the creator has announced she's quitting Slow Russian :( Pity because I really like it. At least I've got plenty of episodes left to go before I get to the end...

I also started (and finished) watching We'll Talk When You Get Back (Вернешься-Поговорим), a Star Media series. It looks super cheap (especially the opening  ) but it ended up being pretty interesting and the acting actually isn't that bad. Even though I couldn't help but think... damn, they killed the wrong one

Aaaand The Road to Calvary (Хождение по мукам) is on Netflix so I started watching that! Apparently Russian YouTubers hate it but I am really enjoying it  Then again, I haven't read the source material...

Just a few more days left of the 6 Week Challenge. I'm still going strong, but I'm also starting to feel a little exhausted. My Russian classes start again on the 18th, so between the end of the challenge and the start of classes I think I'll take a nice week long break from Russian :)

I'm quite happy with the way my pronunciation/speaking practice is progressing. It's far from perfect but I'm slowly breaking down the mental barrier and that's nice. The end goal is Russian good enough for travel purposes (anything more is a bonus). Who cares about perfect? #setthebarlow

Things are also working out nicely with my current language exchange partner. I hope we can keep this up! We're having the second Skype session tomorrow, and in between we send each other a ton of questions. It's nice. It works.

Non-Russian: I really miss my carefree dabbling in Ainu! Another reason I'm perfectly ok with the 6WC ending soon

Well, it's very clear the 6 Week Challenge has ended  I never wrote a review post about the 6WC and still intent to do so. I am a little burnt out to be honest - something I only realised now that I've taken a small break  I really pushed hard, learned a lot, and now my brain says no.

My Russian classes start again tomorrow and they will be my priority language-wise for the next few months. I'm quite busy this month so it might be a case of minimum effort, just enough to do well in my classes. And hopefully I'll continue the language exchange.

I'm eager to start working on Ainu again though, but at least this month while I'm busy I'll probably stick to only reviewing what I learned so far.

I just finished The Road to Calvary and with that my 50 movies for the ½ Super Challenge

As for The Road to Calvary... oh man, that ending :?

(spoiler: you cannot just go and give them a happy ending and then conclude with "oh and they all lived and died miserably afterwards anyway!" )
