Recommendations for MP3 Player Handheld Pause Function?

Postby jfhst18 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 7:53 pm

I like to make Pimsleur-like recordings for myself and listen to them while walking. In
the early stages it would help me to be able to pause the recording, but I haven't found
a good way to do it while walking.

I don't have a smartphone, so I'm looking for a standalone device.

I thought I saw one advertised that had a cord coming from earphones that was especially for walkers.

I'm not able to find quite the right thing surfing around.

Does anybody have a good set up like this? Links appreciated.

Cowon players include hard buttons for all major operations of the player (volume, rev/ffw, pause/play, hold).

You should look for players that support "drag and drop" of audiobook folders and the auto resume of mp3 files. That way you can simply drag the folders into the player and you're good to go. The auto resume feature allows you to shut off the player and listen to several audio books concurrently.

The Cowon players support all these features.

The Creative mp3 players are cheap but more limited in their functions. They can also be finicky.

Finally, you could consider getting a used smartphone and using it as a media player.

I switched from a Cowon i9 (which doesnt have hard buttons for all main functions) to a Fiio M3, which is completely controlled by tactile buttons.

I recommend the sansa jamp clip. It is light, tiny, and has the button you're looking for

If you search for a cheap, but good mp3 player, you might consider the devices from AGPTek. All of them have tactile buttons, especially for the pause function. My AGPTek mp3 player's stop/pause button has already endured many uses, but it still works without flaw nonetheless. But beware, theses devices are so "simple" that you might have the impression that they are technically at the level of 10 years ago. This need not be bad, that's one reason they still have a pause button.

Thanks for the recommendations guys...I've got some brand names and models to check out.

I guess I should have also asked about bluetooth headphones or earbuds...or do these MP3 players come with workable ear pieces?

I do all my listening on a FiiO X3 (with separately purchased on-ear headphones). Pausing and un-pausing can be done easily even with the device in your pocket, you just push the largest button. If you haven't pressed any buttons for a while, you have to push another button first which normally means I need to be looking at it, but otherwise very straightforward.
