While I loathe the idea of starting a group and while I can see this languishing at the bottom of the pile I think this place needs a Portuguese thread. I also may never check in on this but here it goes anyway:
No Pimsleur and Assimil talk (or the like). Feel free to start a new thread somewhere else. Please don't inform everyone that you're joining or that this is a good/bad idea.
Portuguese is welcome (duh). You're encouraged NOT to translate into English.
You can introduce yourself and practice your Portuguese in the multilingual room's
Portuguese Thread
(courtesy of Iguanamon).
Also take a look at:
Portuguese resources.
While I'm writing this I'm reading 4 erros comuns na hora de fazer um churrasco. The article starts with "Os brasileiros adoram um churrasco, não é mesmo?" which is a real neat sentence. Can't post a link because of some inappropriate click bait pics.
I have also been watching "A escrava Isaura"(remake). Heaven help me I'm on episode 12. Both the original series and the remake are youtubable. The 1979 series looks like a bad TV transfer.

I was flipping thru past winners of the International Emmys earlier. Lots of Brazilian entries.

Have you seen the already existing Portuguese Thread? And you're right, reineke, it ended up towards the bottom of the pile.

I saw Рабыня Изаура around 1990. I think it was the first telenovela ever dubbed into Russian. It was pretty popular.

I watched it in Italian. Sponsored by Caffe Kimbo. Never tried the darn thing.

Olha só...five pages of first-time posters. Isn't that a multilingual room thread though? Iguanamon, if you feel like pruning your log and transferring any interesting links, this would be the best place to do so.

'I will soon start watching "real" Brazilian movies":
http://www.tasteofcinema.com/2014/25-es ... an-cinema/
http://www.adorocinema.com/
That was me in 2016. Instead I watched cartoons and I listened to audiobooks. No harm done. On the other hand, several years ago I used a couple of famous Brazilian movies (including City of God) as a sort of a test as to whether I should embark on Portuguese. In hindsight, that only helped to postpone my decision.

Yes, it is a thread based on the old HTLAL thread for people to write in Portuguese or English (multilingual includes English) about Portuguese... not a study group. You've already, graciously, provided links for resources for a bunch of languages. You can start a study group, link to your Portuguese Resources thread and then vacate the day to day running of the group as you see fit. I thought about starting a Portuguese Study Group but after starting the Haitian creole group, I'm kind of burnt out on running a next one. I knew an HC study group wouldn't be very popular anyway. Really, my resources other than the courses I did and my tutor, are/were much more similar to what you do- watching, reading and listening. I'll be happy to contribute to your group though at some point, and I'm sure some learners could find some of my links useful.
