It’s Rdearman’s fault. He started it. ... Thus, Setswana was chosen.

Don't know what you're all complaining about, you're better at Setswana than me now.

That’s why you need to join the 6WC with Setswana. We want to be able to keep an eye on you. No more of this “lazy fist” stuff, expecting us to do all the work.

The next session is Monday, August 6th at 20:00 Central European Summer Time (UTC +2)
Feel free to join it at: https://hangouts.google.com/group/BzdExCkHZAjIrqjU2
Dumelang!
As 'homework' the group agreed to define a short personal 'island'. A few sentences to memorise that are useful in describing yourself or who you are, etc... We will post them in this thread before the call and can then help each other correct or expand.
Tsamayang sentlê, borra le bomma!
ps: we are currently mostly focusing on 'An introduction to spoken Setswana' either in pdf form or the Memrise course. Feel free to join us at any time.
The next group session will be modified - we've found a language exchange partner that speaks Setswana and is learning French and is interested in helping the beginner group.
So the next session will start with Setswana for 30 min and those that aren't into learning French can drop out. The second half will be a 30 min French session.
Don't forget the homework for next week - we can use the 'islands' to present ourselves to the new participant.

Audio stories in Setswana and other African languages
Written stories in various African languages I couldn’t make the search function work, so you might have to just scroll through. Here are the stories in Setswana: Neo and the big, wide world, We have to go, Sisanda’s gift, The birthday wish, Thembela in the wind, The amazing tale of floating Zimkhitha, Kamuzu’s voice, Silly Thukile, How stories began, The rain bird, Haruki’s tale. Since the stories are available in English too. I was planning to see if I could copy them and make parallel texts. I haven’t checked all of them, but at least some have audio as well, so then we could have a parallel text and audio to study from.

That's a great find! But boy, is that site difficult to navigate - I can't figure out what stories have audio.

Oops. I just checked more carefully and it looks like the only one that has it is "The birthday wish" unless the titles are different.
And the audio doesn't follow the story.

Re: Setswana Study Group - islands
Ok, here is my homework. This took me an hour and I'm not 100% sure of the text...

"Beer" ke'ng ka Setswana?
(the counting system is something ferocious. I certainly do not master it yet.)

I have been listening to a load of Radio Botswana, and although I recognise very little I find the numbers very easy. They use English numbers. I read somewhere else that native numbers are dying off simply because they are too difficult.
