However, I have heard that reading of scientific journals is essential if you want to take an IELTS Academic exam.

It is one of the reasons why I don't want to take any language exams. To pass them you have to speak and write about the topics you've never had any interest in and wouldn't discuss in your native tongue. It's probably a very useful way to improve your TL, but I better find another way to do it :)

What do you think of subscribing to New Scientist? https://www.newscientist.com/
I am going to subscribe in August, but I am still in two minds.

In the one article I read, the writing style was terrible and full of fragments. There were also some errors. I don't think it is worth paying for.
I like to read Quanta

Guys, let's share our reading lists.
I have read 4 books recently:

"Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear" by Elizabeth Gilbert;
"Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell;
"Committed" by Elizabeth Gilbert;
"Little Women" Louisa May Alcott.

All the books I have read in English. All of them are unabridged.

Now I am reading:
"Murder on the Orient Express" by Agatha Christie;
"A Moveable Feast" by Ernest Hemingway;
"The Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)" by Jerome Klapka Jerome;
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J. K. Rowling.

I am going to read 16 books by the 14 of October.

By the way, guys, what kind of books you can call "life-changing"? I mean the books, which have changed your life immensely. Maybe, some psychological literature, something about healthy food/exercising, some philosophical books or about marketing, time-management, and business?

Wow, that's an impressive number of books (and I read a lot).

It's a lot of books. I think almost half or 1/3 of them I've read in Russian. And, of course, I've watched the old soviet movie Двенадцатая ночь, but never read the book. For some reason I can't read any English book if I've already read its Russian translation. Especially if I've read a book more than once, including Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen :( .
