大家好!
I'm going to participate to this challenge, with Chinese and Japanese language :)

In January I am planning to watch for the first time 《海洋天堂》, about the story of an aging father who tries to teach his autistic son how to live independently, before he passes away. It has been on my wishlist for a long time, but I have always waited for the right moment to watch it.

I would gladly accept recommendations for Japanese films. Possibly something based on a true story.

So excited to be a part of a challenge this year!!! I'm participating with Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin.

I'm Xelian and here's my language log:
http://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4705
If you look at the last post it shows that I'm going to be studying 5 languages, but my focus languages are Korean, Swedish, and Japanese (which is the title of the thread). I am still making efforts to learn Mandarin, so I'd like to take on this language for the year as well. I have language partners in both Japanese and Korean, and am learning Japanese/Swedish/Japanese linguistics full time at university. I am planning to take more Korean classes next school year, in the winter of 2017, along with 4th year Japanese.

I would say my strongest language after English is Japanese.

To add to the Japanese resources, I'd say "Tobira" is a really good textbook for intermediate to upper intermediate/advanced Japanese.
I also would recommend this website for both reading and listening (though it isn't a real person reading the text, it is clear and understandable) for beginner to intermediate readers: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/index.html
And this is just a really fun Japanese resource I just found, I don't know where it would go in terms of category on the resource list, however, (maybe listening..): http://delvinlanguage.com/groups/

Sup y'all. I'm Galaxyrocker, and I'll be half-participating, in a way. I'm learning Japanese this year (though that might fall through if my plans to go to Japan don't work out). I'm just starting off, working through Genki. I've finished chapter 1 and 2, and have the hiragana memorized, though I didn't put the same effort into the Katakana, sadly. I've read the grammar sections for chapter 3, and listened to the dialog, but the holidays got me outta sync. I hope to get through Genki 1 and 2 this year, and hopefully go live in Japan for a while. We can chat more on my log if y'all want, it's in the sidebar profile.

Count me in for Mandarin. I'm a rusty HSK 4 level, and would like to be a polished HSK 5 level by the end of 2017. Log here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5144

Count me in for Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin. My focus will be on getting my Korean up to a solid intermediate level.

Nice to see someone else trying to take on all three of these!! And also someone with such a high proficiency in Japanese. Good luck with your Korean, I'll be working towards the same kinds of goals but am a bit less advanced in Japanese still, so I'm working on bringing that up along with some very basic Mandarin.

Happy studies~

Hello everyone!
I'd like to signup for Chinese and Japanese. As for resources, you should definitely add Pleco to the Mandarin dictionaries. It definitely is a lifesaver for anyone learning Chinese!

Is Tagalog included? If it is, then I'll join.

ロータス wrote:Im not sure if it would count as East Asian since it mostly in the Philippines but I dont mind if you joined. Its close enough lol :3 I can add it under lesser known languages.

I see that Thai is included, so I think Tagalog can count too, because both languages are not from East Asia, but from Southeast Asia. But because there are not many learners of these languages, there is no point in creating a separate team for them. So I'll join this team :)

Here's my resolutions, which are also listed in my language log (plus Swedish and Spanish goals)

-Join the TAC East Asian Team (Japanese B2; Korean A2; Mandarin beginner) (completed)
*I want to consistently check in with this group and update my language log when I can; at least once a week.

-Taking Japanese 312
*I want to try my best in this course, while still taking the time to study a lot outside of class
*I want to find a solid Japanese language exchange partner
*I want to journal in Japanese as much as I can
*Japan trip (I'll be going this summer and making videos)!!! So pumped~

-Studying Korean with a language partner
*I want to talk with my language partner for 1 hour at least twice a week
-Other stuff for Korean
*I want to be able to understand all materials up to the Korean 102 class, so I can jump in at the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018 no problem (wish me luck!)
*I want to finish the Pimsleur Korean discs

-Getting down the basics of Mandarin
*I want to discover good materials and get down the basics, at least A1 in Mandarin, if I can A2!
*I want to finish the Pimsleur Mandarin discs

These might change, but I think this is a pretty good list of realistic goals for 2017^^ Happy New Year, language learning friends! Looking forward to seeing everyone's goals for the year!
