Yes let's pick a monthly challenge! Any ideas anyone?

Perhaps for January, as December's almost done? Or maybe one for December, as that's when many are on break? Either way. ;)

ロータス wrote:Doesnt really seem to be a point in making another one. From what I've noticed from other Study Groups that are for bigger languages, is that people just use them to post resources that they find for that language. When ever someone(that is new) has a question about a language, they always post a new thread and don't even know about the study groups on this website. I have noticed over the months that East Asian Learners mostly don't check the website daily or even weekly and just come to post on their log and leave, which is fine. There are not many of us here so breaking the group even smaller imo won't help activity levels xD I'm pretty sure if I check the names in the first post, most of them aren't even active anymore. These languages are hard so we have a high drop out rate as well.

Haha okay, makes sense! I do agree with that!

Regarding the monthly challenge, since December is almost over, how about we do one for Jan 2018? :)

I was looking through the other challenges on the forum and found this vocab challenge: https://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=5624 that looks pretty cool! So essentially you (try to) estimate your current vocab and see how much more vocab you can learn in 1 month! Set a goal, like maybe 300 new Japanese words/ Kanji. Or 200 new Chinese characters. What do you guys think about it? Anyone up for it? Reply if you are keen :)

Although I speak Cebuano (Philippine / Austronesian language) every day, I'm not actively learning it as I have a lot of other study presently.

In June, I should be back on Cebuano, hopefully before then.

I monitor this area, but I'm not able to take part now.

My other studies are Spanish plus languages/cultures (part time university courses) and advanced IT courses.

I hope to learn better study techniques and then be able to apply them to Cebuano.

Hi everyone! I'm just starting out learning Cantonese. In the past I've learned a fair amount of Mandarin Chinese, but dropped off a bit. My 汉子 knowledge is still sort of with me which makes learning Traditional characters a lot easier.

I'm very new to the forums but glad I could find this study group!

Oop, I see I'm still in this group for Japanese. Anyway, I'm still plugging away, though this Christmas vacation I'm more on the Finnish. Took the N3 this last December, we'll see how it goes.

And I am not listed here, either. Can you count me in?

Could you add me as well? I'm studying Japanese, and here is my log: https://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7472

I realized that it might be easier for us to be included if we put links to our logs (which I failed to do last time).

Sounds good! :) I just need to figure out where I should focus on getting said vocabulary (Japanese101? JLPT list? So many options!)

My apologies if it came out wrong: that was not my intention! I was just trying to make a friendly suggestion. :)

Perfect challenge for me - if I want to get to my goal of 1000 characters by the end of the year, I need to do about 85 this month. I'm pretty sure I can learn 150, though.
