Can we age more slowly and stay healthy longer? Today we know that genetics only determines just under a third of life expectancy. The remaining 70 percent is influenced by our own lifestyle and environmental factors. Even with a genetic burden, a disease such as dementia or cancer is largely explained by lifestyle, according to the latest research data. This is positive news. So it is never too late to start a personal prevention programme. Find out what the roadmap for this looks like.
Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari is UZH Professor of Geriatrics and Ageing Research and leads the largest study on healthy ageing in Europe.
