How is everybody's German going?

As described a bit more chaotically in my log, I am now on the quest from a true false beginner level to B2. I don't know whether I'll really get there as soon as I need. But I thought I should put the classical progress bars somewhere, and there is no better and more motivating place than the German learning group. And when I finish something, I'll post a short review of the resource, as I suppose there are other false beginners around, who might find it interesting.

I am wondering what TV shows or movies you guys have been using successfully for German immersion? Where do you find your immersion content? How many minutes or hours each day are you actively immersing? I've been having great success watching German audio dubs of anime series and movies on German Netflix, Amazon Prime and Animax. German dubs of animation do not distract me in the same way that German dubs of "The A-Team" or some live-action show might, where the lips are way out of sync. In this sense, I find animation more forgiving. There is also a massive amount of anime with excellent German dubs.

There is a wealth of German content to be found. I used among others these:

- youtube: German youtubers, just search for something you're interested in
- documentaries. I enjoyed "Deutschland von oben" which is on youtube.
- German TV: They offer a lot for free without geoblocking, and the programmes usually come with subtitles
- Tatort. Is available on daserste.de. Tatort is rather difficult to follow.
- I also used a lot of podcasts from German radio. Sometimes a transcript is available, I think that was the case for SWR2 wissen

I never used dubbed series, but that is because I don't like it. I don't see the point when German offers so much valuable authentic content.

Going forward I have noted a couple of series that I want to watch:
- Babylon Berlin
- Überläufer
- Deutschland 83
- Dark

Aber im Moment arbeite ich hauptsächlich mit Spanisch.

I've been working through a course built around German expressions recently, and today I actually came across one of them in the wild! :-)

Those little audio lessons are great. Is there any convenient way to download them?

The individual lessons have a 'downloads & links' option to the right of the horizontal navigation menu. e.g.

The Tower (German: Der Turm)
is a 2012 German TV drama film based on the eponymous 2008 novel by Uwe Tellkamp. It is about life and history in Dresden between 1982 and 1989 in the German Democratic Republic, GDR and its last years before demonstrations, the time of Die Wende (the turning from former socialistic government with Stasi-elements to democracy), the tearing down of the wall and before German reunification.[1]

Beelinguapp is not the greatest app ever but it does have stories at various levels. They are read by people and not computers so the audio quality can vary quite a bit. You don't have to listen to the audio, though. You can read the text yourself if that's what you prefer.

I quite like the Lernkrimis from Circon Verlag. For German there are now volumes available from A1-B2, all monolingual German, but once you've mastered German you'll be able to use the Lernkrimis they publish for other languages too, which include vocabulary and grammar notes in German.
