I don't know how clubs work, but if you or someone else here starts one, I'll join.

I do not really know how it works either. I imagine it is probably just an extra leaderboard feature, but who knows. I created a club for this group. If anyone here wants to join here is the code to sign up:

I joined the group but I'm not a huge fan of
Duolingo so I don't really use it much. I did do the placement test to fill in all the gaps that have appeared in my tree from all of the updates the German tree has gotten over time so don't expect me to get 2200 xp in one go too often
The added competitiveness of the club might get me to use it a little more often though which is good.

I'm using Duolingo only on my computer, as I find the apps not good. So, not joining. And I need to devote myself to other sources anyways. But I am looking forward to hearing of all of you finishing the tree :-)

Btw is there a similar option for the Memrise users? That might be more useful to me

I also mostly use it on my computer as it is weirdly more difficult, especially testing out. I noticed that completing normal lessons and refreshing is still registered in the group activity, but for some reason testing out only counts if you do it from within the app. I guess it depends if you have already completed the tree or not as to whether or not this is worthwhile. I am also yet to see if my English for German speakers will still count in the group activity.

I do not really know about Memrise groups but I just gave it a shot out of interest and invited you to join. The link for everyone else is http://www.memrise.com/group/132199/
I had to add courses, but I assume anyone within the group can add courses if I have not got the course you use up there (If not let me know, I will add any that people need, not sure if there is a limit). It will be interesting to see how it works. I guess one of the frequency lists is probably the best bet for a group activity.

#edit again
Now that Aokaye has joined, I can actually see some of the functions of the group. It looks like it basically incorporates some of the premium features into the groups. For example, I can click on any of the members, so far only Aokaye...not sure why, but I do not seem to count as a member, so I guess I have to join? seems weird. Anyway, you can click on member, choose out of the courses and see the following catergories
Study time (last 30 days)
words learned
Words healthy in LTM
Difficult words
course progress
points (last 30 days)

I didn't realize clicking on the link would automatically put me in the group, so I guess my lurking in this thread has been revealed.

Hello to everyone! I've been feeling a pull to learn German, but haven't really done anything about it, so I've been following this thread without participating.

Glad I could be an unexpected guinea pig! That said I did want to note that it looks like you're the only one who can add courses to the group.

It's a trap! Oddly it did not actually count me as a member before clicking the link, and that's with me starting it. It's great to have another member on board. Now that you are no longer able to use your ninja skills, it would be great to see your German journey taking off again. I had a quick read through your log and saw that you had dabbled.

Aokaye: For me, when I click on the course tab, at the bottom there is a "choose a course to add" button. If it does turn out that only I can add courses, if everyone posts the courses they are using, I will add them all. I guess it would double as a mini database of all of our favourite courses that way.

Cavesa: Shall I add all of the courses you linked previously or do you have a few stand out courses from them that I should add instead, I noticed in your log you may have found another course that you prefer since your initial links.

I am going to tentatively start working on a "course" for Mittelpunkt C1 Neu. I would use the textbook that I'm currently using but Klett (the publisher) already has the German version of the wordlist up so all I'd need to add is the English translation. If I don't end up creating that there's another useful memrise course that I might ask you to add. Also just an aside my username is aokoye not aokaye.

This is the one I am using now the most, but I am gonna get back to that list quite soon. Thanks for adding it!
This Memrise group might be so fun and finally make me stick to Memrise for a while!

Thanks for setting that up Walkingalone.

I'm currently using:
http://www.memrise.com/course/46/1000-w ... ry-german/
http://www.memrise.com/course/1098512/german-1/
http://www.memrise.com/course/1098513/german-2/
and it might be useful to add the remainder of the memrise created courses (up to 7 I believe).

My studying got rather sidetracked over the last couple of weeks but will be getting back on schedule tomorrow.
