An excellent question. We've got a few active posting members, but otherwise people are just studying German (or not) and following their own logs.

We should give it some new impulses in 2024.

After all, it might be interesting. Back when I started the thread, that was like several failed and one successful attempt at German ago. A lot has changed. Various other members have been progressing very nicely. We should do more about our shared pool of experience.

Ich bin auch ganz neu hier im Forum, würde aber gern in der Gruppe teilnehmen! Ich habe seit einigen Monaten kein Deutsch mehr gelernt - sollte aber etwas dagegen tun! :?

But they are English voice-overs on original German documentaries. The originals however doesn't seem to be on youtube, or are they?

Maybe this response is a bit late, but I'm not too often reading the German threads, so I didn't notice the question earlier.
I noticed that DW is often using documentaries done by other channels. There are definitely some originally produced by/for WDR (WDRDoku), arte (ARTEde or maybe also their other channel Irgendwas mit Arte und Kultur) and NDR (NDRDoku), which also publish the originals on youtube and their own mediathek.

Arte documentaries you can recognise after a while by their very typical style and sounds, because they pretty much all use the same sounds, even in the first seconds of the documentary. So you may just have to listen to the first 4 seconds to know where the video came from. In those documentaries they often (at least in all the arte RE: -videos) show a map where a certain person is living or where something is happening. Maybe you noticed that already a few times.
But sometimes arte also has documentaries produced by other TV channels in Europe that are then translated to German. Then of course the sound is a bit different and those tricks to recognise them don't work, but I assume that those may not end up at DW anyway (?).
But you can also simply look at the endcard of the DW video, they do mention in the last seconds who was the original producer.

I definitely can recommend watching documentaries by all three channels mentioned above.

But in case of WDR I have been a few times annoyed that they shortened the youtube version compared to the mediathek-version and just end the video with a link to the mediathek. In the worst case (only noticed that once so far) they had cut out several scenes during the video and not just the second half, which made it very annoying to find the missing pieces in the original video. There were also many people complaining about that in the comments. But I think they don't do it with every video and hopefully they noticed the complaints.
I have not noticed anything similar with arte or NDR documentaries.
