Hello everyone,
I am brand new to this forum and this is my first message !
I have recently undertaken the study of Spanish. I have gotten my hands on both the 1981 Assimil "L'Espagnol sans Peine" and the corresponding 1988 "Perfectionnement Espagnol". These are different from the current Assimil Spanish courses.
The issue is I don't have the corresponding audio. I have found recordings of the first 56 lessons of "L'espagnol sans peine" on Sciarium, but I have not managed to find lessons 57-108 of the book, nor have I found the audio for the 1988 "Perfectionnement Espagnol".
If anyone knows where I can find them, please reply to this message or drop me a PM ! Thank you so much in advance :)

EDIT : I have found the audio for the 1981 "L'Espagnol Sans Peine" course here : https://archive.org/download/AssimilCompilation1/
I now only miss the 1988 Approfondissement course !

I've really been enjoying the "Español Si" videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@espanolsi4341/playlists

Does anyone know who created this series? The content is a really interesting mix of intermediate dialogs and grammar lessons, and the production values and acting are quite good. I also found a description with more info here: http://videosinspanish.blogspot.com/p/e ... os_26.html

And this site also has another series with the same teacher: http://videosinspanish.blogspot.com/p/c ... panol.html

I haven't been able to figure out if they are the original creators of this content or if perhaps the content is coming from some out of print DVDs that multiple YouTubers have uploaded.

If you look at the miniature logo of the videos, you will find the logo of "Language Tree Online", which is also in the cover of the original DVD series published in 2009 by Abril Coleçoes, a brazilian editor.

I'm guessing Language Tree Online created the course for Abril Coleçoes, and the editor distributed weekly or bi-weekly in brazilian libraries and news-stands.

If you are interested in getting the complete collection, which include 24 DVDs, 24 CDs, and 24 books, you can find it in the brazilian version of Amazon.

Thanks! If it was created for learners in Brazil, maybe that explains why the content is a little more advanced - because Portuguese speakers have a bit of a head start? I have to admit I'm curious about the additional content in the books.

Yes, native-speakers of Portuguese have a tremendous advantage over an English-speaker in learning Spanish. Knowing Spanish at a high level was a tremendous help to me with learning Portuguese. I was able to skip the first four volumes of the DLI Portuguese Basic Course... but Portuguese will only take someone so far with Spanish. It's a different language for a reason. It may be around 80% similar but the devil is in that other 20%!

I'm looking for a magazine or website something like the New Yorker, or L'Express, but in Spanish. Articles on current affairs, science, geo-politics with some analysis. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been looking around but have mostly found literary magazines so far and, while really interesting, they are not really what I was looking for. I will link them here in case anyone is interested:

El malpensante: https://elmalpensante.com/
Orsai: https://orsai.org/
Jot Down: https://www.jotdown.es/
Letras Libres: https://letraslibres.com/

Thanks

There are several good resources that avoid a paywall. I wrote about them here with several links included.

Digital Florentine Codex

Postby elAmericanoTranquilo » Thu Nov 16, 2023 6:49 am

Interesting project from the Getty institute:

The Digital Florentine Codex gives access to a singular manuscript created by Franciscan friar Bernardino de Sahagún and a group of Nahua elders, authors, and artists. Written in parallel columns of Nahuatl and Spanish texts and hand painted with nearly 2,500 images, the encyclopedic codex is widely regarded as the most reliable source of information about Mexica culture, the Aztec Empire, and the conquest of Mexico. Upon completion in 1577 at the Imperial Colegio de la Santa Cruz in Tlatelolco (today Mexico City), the manuscript was sent to Europe where it entered the Medici family’s library in Florence—thus, the Florentine Codex. This digital edition unlocks the manuscript’s content by making the texts and images searchable.
