Re: Spanish Group
There's a new series on Spanish TV channel LA 1 (also aired at the same time on TVE Internacional with subtitles): La otra mirada
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_otra_mirada
http://www.rtve.es/television/la-otra-mirada/
The first episode is here, it can be downloaded with VideoDownloadHelper ( but without subtitles).
Do you know a free software that can download both video and subtitles from the TVE site? Then it could be run in Lingo Player.
http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/la-o ... z/4581988/
The airing of the episodes is followed by a documentary on the subject "Retratos con Alma", on TVE Internacional, it's also subtitled.

[I don't think it is against the rules to share here]
I wish I could watch RTVE. Sadly region lock, as well as half of Netflix Spanish catalogue. Oh well. There are always other ways.

You could receive RTVE Internacional with a satellite dish, they also beam this program to South Africa and carry a lot of LA 1 and LA 2 programs, and almost all are subtitled.

Oh wow. You are actually right. I remember a few years ago we had a bouquet for Portuguese channels and one for German channels. And to my surprise Spanish as well. But......... Sadly you have to configure your decoder to do it according to the settings on http://www.rtve.es/television/tve-inter ... mo-vernos/ to watch it. Which is a bit too much effort since I don't even watch satellite tv anymore lol. But I will keep this in mind!
I can still watch any Spanish show I want too, there are other options and I have already found tons that I can't wait to watch ! I already found, for instance, Gran Hotel with accurate subtitles that I may use for when I practice my listening.

Nice text about cheating shop-assistants:

That's exactly how I get the subtitles from RTVE. One thing to note - VLC Player plays VTT subtitles without needing to convert. Should mean Lingo Player will also play them (as it's based on VLC Player).

Re: Spanish Group
Question for the group
A sentence I encountered today. I would never think to translate it like that. But my native friend friends says La salud lo es todo sounds natural (or more natural than those). They could not explain why though
So here I am, a hopeless learner, asking for help.
I know "Lo" is tricky but it generally means "the thing", "the matter of". So in this sense the sentence is split in two. Health, it is everything ? How would I know when to do this in speaking and writing. Does it all just come down to practice and being corrected ?
I know saying "means/is everything" triggers the use of lo (I used DeepL Translator) . I.e. Your opinion means everything to the company - Su opinión lo es todo para la empresa. Does it have something to do with "todo", that it requires an article ?

You've hit the nail on the head. Butt and Benjamin has this to say:
B&B wrote:When the direct object follows the verb, use of a redundant object pronoun is common with todo:
ahora me lo tienes que contar todo
In this case as a direct complement, the DPD goes further:
The DPD wrote:En el español general, el complemento directo tónico pospuesto al verbo no suele admitir la coaparición del pronombre átono, salvo que se trate también de un pronombre personal, caso en el que es obligada (→ 5.1). Solo es normal la duplicación en todo el ámbito hispánico cuando el complemento directo tónico es el pronombre todo: Lo sé todo;

Thank you so much, Andy. This has been bothering for more than I am willing to admit haha. I must have complete missed it in Butt and Benjamin; that is usually the first place I look. But I see it now !
