Tervetuloa! Is this your first Finno-Ugric language?

It is indeed! I looked at the first lesson of Assimil today, it...sort of makes sense.

Congrats, Elenia. I find Assimil to be more painful than advertised, but as I near the end of the passive wave, I find something is slowly starting to click into place at last. I had the same experience using Assimil for German. It didn't make much sense until the end.

I'm early enough that it's not too horrifying an experience. As I get further, it will certainly be worse - unless I can get my German to keep up!

Mist sä oot vetäny tällä kertaa herneet nenää?

Some of these sentences on clozemaster are a little odd. Comes out as?

"What have you got your knickers in a knot about this time?"

Wordreference might come to the rescue.

Sometimes, for me what comes to the rescue is just to ignore and move on. Maybe that's a mistake, I don't know, but that's me.

That's a brilliant sentence to learn!

Our phrase for "getting one's panties in a bunch" is literally "to snort a pea", presumably because at least I would be annoyed if I had a pea stuck up in my nostril. It also implies going through the struggle of "snorting a pea" to get upset, as in, you're upset for no reason other than wanting to be angry.

Ahh, cool, thanks so much. It knew it was idiomatic, but nice to hear it's a good one.

This is unrelated, soomeone on my Facebook page posted this article about Iraqis learning Finnish.

Thanks, Cathryn! I've been too lazy to search Finnish audio, but I do want to start listening more.

Re: Finnish dubs of animations

Once upon a time there was a company called "Agapio Racing Team". They undercut everyone else, so all the networks sourced their dubs from them. Little did they know that the dubs were complete shit. Only hugely popular series like Pokemon got a higher budget for the dubbing, and were thus spared. ART went under once the networks realized what a huge mistake it was to give them anything. As a result, a lot of the dubs you'll find on Youtube are from them, because people love being nostalgic over them.
