Little quiet here, but just chiming in that I'm picking up interest in Finnish again. Mostly just pushing pretty hard Clozemaster, but kind of hoping to move ahead a little bit to something else coming up here. Maybe make another go at reading something longer. (Not news)

For me, I suppose Nordic group is preferrable because Finnish is Nordic. Nice to see you guys are still here. I've been in and out, distracted by life, but starting to build up enthusiasm again.

I'd love to hear more about Finnish along the way. It's one I have to keep pushing off my active wanderlust list for sanity's sake, but as a student of linguistics, it's awfully tempting...

Finnish, being a heritage languate for me is one of my lifelong projects. I think Finnish, being completely phonetic makes it attractive for some. It's all the conjugation/case system weird, but with the simplest writing system. It is nice to just read and know how to sound in my brain, even if some words, I'm not totally clear why they're there. With Japanese there's so much complexity with the writing system, that there there's a sputtering, stop and start as I hit strange characters or readings.

I'd like to join. I'm currently working on Icelandic, with a general interest in the Nordic/Scandinavian countries as well. I do have a copy of Finnish for Foreigners I might have to loop back to one day, but for now I need to stay strong on the "no new shiny" part of my log. I was getting into it pretty well around the Winter 2019/2020, but then work got crazy and I didn't have the time, so I imagine I would need to start all over.

For now, Icelandic is more than enough challenge.

Hello, I am learning Norwegian and Swedish. My level it's still A1 for both of them, but last summer I went to Norway and I bought some books in Norwegian that I would like to be able to read. And this way, I suppose I could also learn vocabulary. But I think it's more difficult to find audio resources.

Learned a new Swedish word today, that is, a new (or better, old and obsolete) meaning of a wellknown word:

"Med torra ögon, men bröstet svällande af suckar, tog fru Danglars jernfodralet och stoppade det i sin pirat"

(Something like "She took the metal case and put it in her pirate")
Found in Alexander Dumas - Grefven af Montecristo (1907)

A "pirat" also was a kind of bag.

I have a tip. There's an epic new TV-series on the history of Sweden. So if you're interested in history and in practicing Swedish...

It can be watched for free on SVT online, also abroad.

I'm learning many new Swedish words.
