Another Icelandic media product which may interest people is the film "Rams" (Hrútar).

It's playing at various indie cinemas in the UK at the moment. I'm going to see it in a couple weeks. I even saw a poster on the Tube!

Re: Team Nordic [study and support group]
Hi, friends! I posted quietly in my log yesterday about maybe organising a multilingual read-along of Odinsbarn. It's originally a Norwegian book, but it is available in Swedish and Finish translation. Sadly, I haven't seen evidence of Danish or Icelandic translations, although it is apparently also available in Czech, so maybe I just missed them. Would any of you be interested? I'll post the Norwegian and Finnish blurbs for all to check out:
Any takers?
EDIT: This is definitely a future proposal! I at least want to give myself and everyone here time to track down the book!
Odininlapsi wrote:Hirkalta puuttuu jotain, mikä kaikilla muilla on.
Any takers?
EDIT: This is definitely a future proposal! I at least want to give myself and everyone here time to track down the book!

Thank you! I wasn't sure how to go about tracking it down and making sure I got the right language.

I'll join you. I need to read more Norwegian anyway. If you're not in a hurry, we could wait until the Super Challenge starts. That's not much longer now. But I have nothing against starting earlier.

May sounds good! By then I will hopefully have found the book in either Swedish or Norwegian.
To those who want to read in Swedish, the e-book is available on storytel.se but you have to have an account.
(Typing those two short lines was more stressful than it should have been
... and of course, as soon as I hit enter I see mistakes. Please tell me if I've managed to miss something, I am sure I have but I'm not sure what.)

I fully agree! I'm looking forwards to taking part in a book club in Scandinavian! Sounds fantastic.
This book is just book 1 of 3, are we going to read all of them or is it too early to think about it?
I have checked and found no audiobooks, but no big deal, I'm in even if it's just about reading the text. The book can be found as an ebook at tanum.no (129kr) and ark.no (91kr now, but they don't accept my credit card). If this book is at least 30% as good as Tintenherz, I will be always thankful to all the goof recommendations on fiction you've brought us, Elenia!

Vad bra!
Sidan: https://www.lydbokforlaget.no/node/25815. Jag ska kolla efter en billigare sida
EDIT to add translation:
Great! I hope the book is at least as good as Inkheart.
It is perhaps too early to think about the other books. But if we like the first book I'd happily read the others with you all I have found the audiobook for you, but it is more expensive than the book itself. But it exists! I'll look for a cheaper version.

"Night Shift" (AKA "Næturvaktin") was IIRC the first Icelandic series to be shown on the BBC, period. It's great! If you enjoyed it, there are two subsequent series, "Day Shift/Dagvaktin" and "Prison Shift/Fangavaktin", plus a film, "Bjarnfreðarson", which was a huge hit in Iceland. And then there's "Gnarr" which is a comedy/documentary about the actor who plays Georg, and his joke candidacy for mayor of Reykjavik. The joke was on him at the end, because he ended up as mayor...
!!! Thanks for that. For some reason, I am not surprised he ended up as Mayor....
But back to "Trapped": didn't you find it interesting that the Norwegians and Danes spoke to each other in English? (except when they lost it and started swearing at each other ...).
Icelanders and Danes, you mean? Or maybe I just haven't got to the bit that you're mentioning yet. It actually surprised me more when the investigator did speak a bit of Danish to the ferry captain, because despite the fact that Icelanders are required to study Danish in high school, they're notoriously unable to speak it. Even the Icelanders and the Faroese seem to often end up speaking English to one another.
Yes, sorry, I have just spotted my bloomer and added an edit: yes, Icelanders and Danes, I meant.
Here's Jón Gnarr on Danish. Hilarious and (after the first 30 seconds) all about linguistic barriers...

(For some reason I can't work out how to embed.)
Thanks again! ...I think I'm even more glad now that I've just changed my plan of trying to revive my Danish to one of trying to revive my Norwegian (which never really got off the ground in the first place...). More on that later...

Re: Team Nordic [study and support group]
And one more person learning Finnish. My language log can be found here.
The read along of Odininlapsi sounds really interesting, but right now I have more than 10 unread books in Finnish. (I just travelled to Finland and bought more.) I should definitely read some of those first. You don't have to wait for me, when you want to start more or less soon. I still would have to think about that anyway. (Also the cheapest version I could find was ~23€ incl. shipping for a used copy.)
