The French B1/B2 Group

Postby badger » Sat Apr 23, 2022 10:32 pm

This is the French B1/B2 Group

For those who are A2+ and are aiming to pass a French B1 or B2 exam in the near-ish future.

If you have no idea what A2/B1/B2 are, or don't want to take an exam, or aren't at the A2+ level this may not be the group for you.

Essentially, this is a group for higher-level beginner to intermediate French learners aiming to take the DELF B1 and/or B2 exams. All members roughly in this area/stage of French learning are welcome, but particular emphasis remains on the core idea that this is a study group centred around passing either the French B1 or B2 exam (eventually).

This is a place where resources for passing these exams can be shared and progress discussed.

Posts in French are welcome, as are challenges/competition, mini-intros with links to you own log, etc.

If you wish to discuss French in general and share other resources not necessarily related to the French B1/B2 exams, I encourage you to post in the following all-inclusive French group:

Le groupe français 2016 - 2019 Les Voyageurs

Thus, this group really is best for those targeting the French B1 and B2 exams.

(with apologies to PeterM's "French C1/C2" group that I have blatantly plagiarized)

Very cool. Going through the same journey. I find that the resources aren't really lacking. It's the motivation/discipline that is important. Hopefully there are more people with the common goal to support and encourage each other. :)

so, since I started the group I should probably write something about me.

my log is here:

Le singe est dans l'arbre [EN->FR]

I learned French in school up to GCSE level at age 16 & quite liked it although I never really had cause to use it after then save for the occasional holiday. I started teaching myself French again 3-4 years ago, without any great sense of urgency, just for enjoyment & as the mood took me. I have read a lot & can follow native-language TV with varying degrees of comprehension. my production is poor though - I have just this month started using italki - & this is going to need to be my main area of work before I go for an exam.

I'd like to sit the exam in October of this year as much as a way to mark my progress as anything else & perhaps as a stepping stone to B2, although I can't see myself ever going any further than that.

the main text book that I'm working from is this one, which I rather like:

Edito methode de francais - B1

I also have this book which I'll probably switch to for test-centric exercises closer to the exam - probably in conjunction with an italki teacher so that I have someone to assess my oral/written production:

Réussir le DELF

I find Lawless French to be a good online resource, particularly for grammar:

are you taking DELF B1?

I find that these days the resources are pretty much unlimited, what is precious is the TIME and SUPPORT of others.

Let's support each other on this journey, I picked up quite a bit of pace recently, hope it lasts.

yes, B1 for now; maybe B2 in the future. I was thinking about doing the B1 exam here in London in October, but I've just started doing italki & now I'm thinking maybe December would be a better bet.

the thread is intended for support, encouragement, sharing of experiences of studying for & taking of the exam, etc. - whatever people want to use if for so long as the focus is on the B1/B2 exams. :)

A great idea for a group! If you guys could do with someone like me to cheer for you, add tips for resources, including low genre books/shows, and be excited about your progress (and read and support your rants about the problems and obstacles), I volunteer! :-)

I'm interested in joining this group! I'm looking forward to following along with everyone's journey :D
I'm planning to do either (or both) the B1 or B2 next year, or possibly the B1 this November if I can get my act together but I don't think that will happen. I'm not yet actively preparing for the exams yet because I have to build a stronger base first. I started learning French in 2020 and I'm not sure about my current level but I guess I'm somewhere between A2 (for speaking and writing) and B1 (for listening and reading).
