That's what the Academie Française says, yes, but I can't say I have come across a news site or book from France that observes that rule. In Quebec, though, it is common to put the accents everywhere.

Well, I honestly don't know whether I have come across any books that observe the rule because I have never specifically looked for it. And it is something very easy to overlook or forget. But going by the examples the Académie gives, I believe I have possibly come across at least few books that follow the rule (though obviousely I can't remember). For example, la Bibliothèque de la Pléiade (Gallimard) which is generally accepted to publish the most authoritaitve editions of French and world classics (including modern classics) must be having hundreds of titles in their catalogue. I have read/used some of these books but as I don't have any title at hand to check, I just checked few of them online. They actually do follow the rule.
As a side note, I personally think the recommendation of the Académie to mark accents everywhere, makes sense.

I have a school text of Le Cid, that has accents on capitals.aravinda wrote:tastyonions wrote:That's what the Academie Française says, yes, but I can't say I have come across a news site or book from France that observes that rule. In Quebec, though, it is common to put the accents everywhere.

Reineke linked to an interesting article about learning language by memorising sentences earlier (glossika & FSI approach?). The success of the original book mentioned led to some language specific editions.

Interesting lecture, "Comment se fait l'acquisition du langage chez le bébé ?". 1 hour lecture, followed by 20 mins Q & A.
This seems to have been part of a themed programme of events called La semaine du cerveau (I've not explored that website.)

I am so excited for this. I just started learning French and I am so excited for the list of resources! While you hit upon most of what I am using, i am actually starting to fall in love with Speechling. I feel like it hits the gap that DuoLingo & Glossika leave. I get native speakers, which I miss in DL and I get feedback on my pronunciation from a free coach, vs Glossika's plan with no feedback. I would check it out. My hope is to sound less American when i speak....

I am taking the unusual step of "double posting" the announcement concerning the A-LM French materials, which is located at the bottom of the attached discussion thread, as it is likely that some members of this Study Group would find it particularly newsworthy.
A-LM Series by Harcourt, Brace & World Center...
Offer on eBay for A-LM French books and student records

À qui la chance?

Re: Le groupe français 2016 - 2017 Les Voyageurs
Anyone would have a tip on a tutor for writing practice, please? Perhaps some of the advanced learners here would know about someone.
I could do with some practice, feedback, and ideas on writing.
I tried to look people up, already got turned down a few times like "I don't give homework like that", and I've been wasting time with reading a lot of teacher profiles that wouldn't fit. I also think it might be fun to get a bit of a challenge in this area, to regularily leave the medicine text cage in this manner.
If I get to France (huge IF), I will already be judged more harshly than the natives, I will already have to deal with a lot of stereotypes and myths. I could give you a list of those I have already encountered, but there is no need to wake up even more self-underestimation than there already is . I speak well, even though I think my residual accent will unfortunately stay with me until my last day, but my writing could be an unnecessary malus.
What do I need and expect:
1.Detailed feedback for one or two larger writing pieces per two weeks, I cannot afford much more both due to time and money. But I would prefer to work on the assignments for longer time and really play with them and improve before sending, instead of doing a large quantity of mediocre assignments. (Mediocre both on my side of the quality of completion, and also mediocre as boring intermediate-like lazy assignments)
2.Good ideas on the assignments, ideally someone with teaching experience concerning natives in schools or lycées, or someone with experience with very advanced learners. I don't have problems with emails or a few sentences, I have a huge block and temporary stupidity concerning anything with more thought, anything like a longer forum post, essai, story and so on. For that, I need someone who will give me the appropriate tasks. Something a bit creative, because that is where I get stuck. It is partially a psychological block, I have a similar one in Czech even though less severe of course, but I think it can be broken with practice.
3.If I am to pay the person, I want them to be better at guiding me and thinking of subjects to practice and stuff I need to work on, than I am. Not someone, for whom I'd be the most advanced student so far, I already have that experience.
4.Price? I can spend up to 40 euros per month for someone worth it. I am saying it like this, because I don't know what can I get for this money from someone competent. There are people that would be probably good at what I need and take even more than that per one hour. It is hard to guess the price, because I have no clue how long would the feedback take. It could be two 45 minute skypes, or it could be detailed email feedback to several assignments, I don't know. The internet is flooded with "let's just speak for an hour and forget about writing" offers, the opposite seems to be a weird demand.
Any ideas, please?
