I don't know which videos you perused, but I've seen a couple where the speakers are a bit influenced by Parisian French (or media) and have weakened accents. It's better to look at the regional programming when they talk to ordinary people or older folk who aren't consciously attempting to demonstrate any difference.

It's not French. but earlier on I was watching ATV (Antwerp) where the big news in otherwise sleepy Kontich was that the WK cycling passed through. Some of the people they interviewed in the street had thicker regional accents. I remember when I was learning Dutch I would compare accents I thought were similar, rather than those with acknowledged larger differences. I still can't tell all the differences even between places like A'dam and The Hague.

It's some time since I've been properly around France, but even 20 years ago there were a lot of younger people in places like Montpellier and Aix-en-Provence who had accents tending towards a more French standard, especially mobile workers. Speaking of Canadian, do you ever watch the videos from 'maprofdefrançais'? That girl (woman) who teaches Quebecois? She spoke to an Acadian speaker who had the clearest accent I've ever heard on that channel from a Canadian speaker.

It was a bit unfair above for me to ask for a regional accent to be identified based on such such a short video clip; I apologize.

Here is a bit longer clip:

I sure wish all the Dictées I have had to do were done at that pace.

Just heard a new-to-me expression that I rather like: mentir comme un arracher de dents > lie like a tooth-puller/dentist > lie through your teeth.
mentir avec aplomb et sans aucun scruple

https://www.dictionnairedesfrancophones ... de%20dents
--------------

I heard it 6m58s into the radio programme: Paris humilié, Paris sans alliés.

Meaning how pre-anaesthesia dentists would reassure patients by saying: 'this won't hurt' before yanking out the tooth!

I don't know if anyone already uses the thing I'm going to post below, but I've used it recently for watching Spanish content. I thought any French learners here could benefit from the same. The French equal (on the same site) allows access to French TV series, for which the system then creates highlighted subtitle transcripts you can follow. Each word leads to a Wiktionary explanatory pop-up for unknown words. You can download the entire transcript and translations.

The controls of the embedded YT player include, among other things, tools to skip back/forward 10 seconds (which you can do anyway on the keyboard with J-K-L = back 10 secs, pause, forward 10secs). The inbuilt text-to-audio is horrid robot voice though. You don't need it anyway. If you full-screen the player the transcript moves under the video rather than to the side.

The first link leads to the 10 episodes of Les Emmerdeurs, The second to episode 1 open and ready. The third link to a thumbnail list of all the TV content.

I've just come across another new-to-me expression that I like: être aux fraises > to be in the strawberries > to be out of it/away with the fairies.

I recently bought a CD by the French trio Juniore. I can't classify it, it sounds like early Cure mixed with a drop of surf-rock to me. Three young ladies, though the project seems to be mainly that of the singer/guitarist. The video directly below is a nice intimate 'acoustic' version of their song À La Plage, which I probably like even more than the official version. For what they more usually sound like see the video underneath that (Mon Autre).
