There's a word that keeps cropping up in the video linked to below, sounds like 'bee' and seems to mean advice/tip/guidance. Do you know what it is?
9m41s: ... la seule bee que je puis vous donner ...
15m43s: ... vous allez leur donnez des bee pour ils puissent ..
30m53s: ... il faut leur donner la bee pour avoir ...

The word is "bille" (marble). Here it is used in the expression "donner des billes" which roughly translates to something like "to give somebody what he may need" (it seems to me that it generally refers to pieces of information not objects, but I may be mistaken).

Agreed, good piece of info. Also, 'il touche sa bille au football' is neither rude nor an obvious description of the game. :)

can anyone in the UK help me with which streaming services have interesting, long-running series with French audio (& maybe subtitles)? not necessarily current series - I'm thinking stuff like ER & the X-files - that I can put on for an hour a night for many months. it seems like the X-files is no longer on Netflix & French-language boxed sets are impossible to get hold of, even from Amazon France.

many thanks!

I watched all the Star Trek series' in French (except the original series) both audio and subtitles. Don't know if Discovery is in French? You just have to go into the language options and change it to French. If you don't see many shows with French subtitles as an option, just change your default language to French and watch one show, from then on it will give you French options if they are available. Most US TV shows will not have non-English, but just about any other series will.

You can also try:
  • Family Business
  • A Very Secret Service
  • Call My Agent
  • Osmosis
  • Marseille (Although it is a bit crap IMHO)
You might also want to check out the Walter Presents on the All4 streaming service.
https://www.channel4.com/collection/walter-presents
They have a lot of French series on there. Also, the BBC iplayer has Engrenage (Spiral) which is a good cop drama. 7 series.

Although All4 & BBC streams have English subtitles that you can't turn off.

The BBC have 8 series of Spiral (police drama) on their catch up service.

You can watch long-running soaps, un si grand soleil & plus belle la vie, on TV5Monde's catch up website. revoir.tv5monde.com

tv5mondeplus.com has some series, mostly canadian I think.

Channel 4 have a lot of french mini-series, but nothing with lots of episodes. Detective Cain is perhaps 20 episodes?

Arte.tv (app for freeview play available) have lots of doccys, not so good for long-running series.

Square Eyed TV

https://squareeyedworld.wordpress.com/

Produce a weekly TV guide, I think if you browse their website there is somewhere a summary of all available series on different streaming services.

EDIT
Arte.tv have a Freeview catchup app that you can download on your TV. If you set the default language to French they have some series too. If you set the default language to English, I think it's just documentaries.

thanks chaps. I've watched Engrenages & also Le Bureau des Légendes, both with EN subs as they're both still a bit complicated & fast for me, but I thought they were both very good.

I do have A Very Secret Service & Call My Agent, & maybe Marseille on my list. I may have another go at Un Village Français.

I think The X-files is now on St*r/Disney+ but I'm not sure whether there's a French language option - does anyone know?

I'm currently watching Narcos Mexico in French on Netflix which is interesting as quite a lot of it is in Spanish (which I know a little), so it switches back & forth from French dialogue to Spanish with French subs, which my brain has to recalibrate itself to each time lol. :D

edit: thanks Dave - just noticed Walter Presents is showing Deutschland 89 - I liked Deutschland 8[36] a lot.
