There's a thread that discussed French children's books you might like to look at Do you know of any Classic Children's French Books?.
2/ Do you find strange that french don't use term Young adult?
They do use "jeunesse", which is mirrored by the German "judendbuch".
3What is your favorite children book in french which is easy to read after Petit Nicolas etc?
Un Sac de Billes, or maybe Heidi.

Another new-to-me expresstion: au quart de tour > quick to start > instantly/easily

An expression that harks back to early motor-cars that had to be started with a starting-handle.

I've just come across an unusual construction, where "à ... près" translates to "except".

deepl.com translates à ce détail près > except for this detail.

The quote is from Paris est une fête, chapter "Shakespeare and company".

Do you know what "demer" means? I'm assuming it's some kind of insult, but I want to know! :-)

EDIT
Looking at it again, it could be an anagram for "merde", so that would be verlan?

Well, it's certainly one of the options:

merde → deumer ou demer

I'm watching Fantomas at the moment, I found myself stuck on a phrase "boule quies", I was expected the French for cotton wool balls (boule de coton), or ear plugs (bouchon d'oreille) but it turns out that "boule quies" is a brand name for wax ear plugs :-)

Ok folks, I promise this is the last Fred video, but I did enjoy this one.
