There but for a fortune, may go you or I …

King rencontre ensuite Lydia Tremblay, 41 ans.

I remember, as a child, stories of the E.B. Eddy Match Company.

Holiday greetings to all and a question.

I am on the last book of the trilogy of Marcel Pagnol’s story of his summers spent in the south of France: La Gloire de mon père, Le Château de ma mère, and Le Temps des secrets. They are about the simple life but use many words for which I can not find definitions:
Zerissons
Emperpignaner
Aludes-a type of bird?

I have of course tried Reverso, my own fat Collins Robert French Dictionary, wordreference website, and Larousse, and have come up empty handed. Does someone know of a definitive one-stop source I should go to for my word look ups?

Many thanks.

Joyeuse année!

Also a reminder to members both old and new that there is an ongoing thread over in the Language Programs and Resources area for people who like to read in French.

TOTW: A French Book Reading Resource
https://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10113

That’s where we share what we read: the good, the bad, and the ugly in hopes of giving people ideas what to read next.

Reviewing the postings of our members should give you lots of ideas.

It is also a good source for people at all levels, whether starting out at A1 or those reading at C1. Just let us know your level and we will be happy to chime in with lots of suggestions.

We are especially pleased to be a thread that has received the ultimate accolade of being designated TOTW or Thread of the Week. This award like stars for restaurants in France is much coveted and one that was gratefully received.

So by all means stop by and let us know what you read.

Bonne année et bonne santé pour 2020.

Magazine.

I was in a (british) newsagent earlier. I noticed that as well as Paris Match, they had a french magazine called Point de Vue (the website appears to be all royal gossip).
