Do they ever give up? Maybe it will clear the way for Germany to later abolish French as a working language in the EU, since more people speak German as a first language in the EU area.
If the French (language purists) weren't so hostile to Esperanto they'd probably do very well with it - try doing the Esperanto course on Duolingo from French, it's easier than from English for those who know it. Instead those people pushing French in the way they do prefer to behave like Napoleon. I don't think a country which generally ignores or suppresses its regional languages should be listened to on language diversity policy.
They're a bunch of blockheads.

At the very least, they are reinforcing their reputation.
But we love them anyway.

French is the de-facto work language in the EU, at least in the political sphere. It's even more important than German, in my opinion. I, for once, didn't think much of it since I already speak English, Spanish and Portuguese... you can imagine that for me, learning a new language from scratch could sound boring. But ever since I've joined a francophone work enviroment, I've realized how many opportunities I've missed because I refused to learn the language.

Of possible interest to this group, Andrei, author of The Untranslated blog (a great blog and at least one page of it is worth reading by everyone here), is starting a book club. The first book is French: Le maréchal absolu by Pierre Jourde.
Caveat emptor: this is a Patreon thing, so it would cost you. Also: I gain no benefit from advertising this. I simply love reading his blog and want to support him.
The main goal of the Book Club is to encourage learners of a foreign language to read a long, challenging novel in that language reviewed on my blog.

In the last episode of season 2 of Les Petits Meurtres, Marlène learns to speak English. This is easy for her, as it turns out that English is just French pronounced differently, super!

Can someone tell me what region in France this accent is from? She says she is from the West Coast. Can anyone be more specific?
I totally love it.
ASMR is of course a whole separate topic....

It just sounds like a French accent to me but some big towns on the west coast are Bordeaux, la Rochelle and Brest.Carmody wrote:Can someone tell me what region in France this accent is from? She says she is from the West Coast. Can anyone be more specific?

Well, a quick stroll down Youtube lane searching on French Accents turned up some videos about different French accents. As usual, no help to me, cause they all sound indistinguishable, except Canadian, to my ears.
