La chanson "Douliou Douliou Saint-Tropez"

Postby tomgosse » Sat Aug 05, 2017 9:03 pm

Bonjour mes amis,

Does anyone know if there was an English version of this song? It's from the 1964 movie "Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez." I know that I never saw this movie before, but the refrain "Douliou Douliou Saint-Tropez" is very familiar. I'm wondering if it was used in a commercial or in a "beach party" movie? Des idées mes amis?

Your question got me thinking of another beach (surf?) song which I don't know the name of. Thanks to my google fu, I managed to figure out the exact day I last heard the song - not the one you're asking about (I've never heard it).

When? On Swedish TV, 24th of May, 1997.

No idea! I only found the name of the documentary. No more info, people involved, soundtrack, nothing. Another fifteen years earlier (early 1980s?), the song was featured in a movie trailer - I don't remember what movie it was either, but immediately recognized the melody when I heard it again in 1997 (and now another twenty have gone...). Anyway, it's not the French song you're talking about (it's not even in French). Apologies for hijacking your thread.

You might have heard it elsewhere. It was quite popular.

FWIW, Shazam correctly id's this song playing from my desktop, but it gives no other info.
I've never heard of it or of the movie or of the series of movies.

For any of those with thoughts of taking a Delf exam:

I'm sure she'll cover B2, and the C levels soon.
