Hi, I looked it up and got this explanation:

"S'emploie comme objet indirect fictif pour intéresser le lecteur ou l'auditeur à l'action racontée."

Also, from the french wiktionary
(Familier) Pour intensifier le discours, dans un emploi explétif.
En moins de rien, ils vous inventent un prétexte pour justifier leur retard.

Do you know what 'vous' is doing here?
Just a guess, and I don't have a decent French grammar, but it looks like the infamous colloquial 'ethical dative.'

In speaking French the register you speak in and the accent with which you speak is always noted. To learn more on the topic check out

Please note, if you know of anyone out there who speaks with as beautiful a "rolling rrrr" as Elisa does, then please let me know. I think hers are absolutely beautiful.

And then in some of her videos there are closeups of her eyes, which are to die for........

Then followup with a review of this francaisdenosregions.com website:

I'm not sure of the beauty of her r's (all of them), but the first time I watched one of her videos my head just about exploded. For some reason I could tell exactly what in my mouth would produce those sounds. I also feel like her slowed down speech is altered to sound like her normal speech, just slower. Maybe she was the 'straw that broke the camel's' back of my speaking, but I make it a point to watch her videos and ads to help pay her back.

My ears detected nothing special about her r's or her i's :) . Easy enough to understand her though the subs helped from time to time, and so I subscribed. The link to francaisdenoregions doesn't work, alas. Thanks for the recommendation, Carmody.

Some of her 'r' pronunciations are quite guttural and scrapy. It might be that her microphone is turned up too high. I watched another more recent one in the recommendations and it's not so loud. she has a nice voice.

Yes, it works now. I was not expecting so much information, so what a treasure. Thanks.

Does anyone wish to suggest a couple of voices of people speaking French that they really like and approve of?
