The Culturethèque library have some of Mr Japrisot's books.

Hi this site looks very interesting - what is it and how does it work ? I can't find an explanation and whenever i click on anything it just takes me to an image of the book and doesn't let me actually do anything with or to it.
It's a digital library associated with the Alliance Francaise. I believe you're in France, they may be using country IP blocks to show us different things.
Culturethèque is available throughout the UK!

Culturethèque is a digital platform for French cultural institutions abroad allowing you to access downloadable resources or view them online. You can read great French literary classics as well as a large range of different types of French literature, new and old. You can also access French newspapers and magazines, music, talks, concerts, documentaries, comics, kids' books, French for foreign learners, serious games and lots more! Have a look and see what you can find...
In my case, from the UK, I can create an email/password account, and borrow (a limited selection of) eBooks using Adobe Digital Editions reader.

EDIT
Sometimes I click on a book within the Culturetheque website, and it sends me to BiblioVox which I think is a digital library for people in France. That might be something you ask about with your local library service there in France.

It would be interesting to know if her bad customer service experiences would have improved after listening to the 'Bonjour Effect' interview Mr Goss mentioned the other day.

Nice pictures. The two cups of hot chocolate look delicious.
I have a few quibbles. The coffee in Paris is fine, or at least it was when I was there during Napoleon's 100 days. And I object to this quote:
I love how Parisians are so incredibly nonchalant about art- they just love it, duh. I'll never forget asking a French guy I was seeing at the time what he was up to on a lazy Sunday. “I'm at the new exhibition at the Grand Palais with some friends. You?”

I'm sorry, but an American guy would just never say that.
I'm more of a farm boy than an esthete, but I've spent a Sunday or two in American museums.
Overall though, the biggest appeal for living in Europe would be the easy access to so many other countries. The closest countries to where I live are West Texas and South Texas.
I did enjoy the piece, "an interesting read," as you put it. Thanks for posting it.

The British Council (bit like Alliance Francaise) produced a report, aimed at UK policy makers, on the most important languages for the UK: Languages for the Future, French placed third.

Interesting article on languages from the Economist.

Many thanks Tom; interesting article.

Did you ever get a chance to try the Great Courses/French that you spoke of? I was at my library today asking about it. I would be interested in your evaluation of it.

I just looked up 'patate' on word reference.com

It can be: a potato, an idiot, 10,000 francs, a punch, or a nose.
