Re: Egyptian (Hieroglyph) Study Group
Last weekend we submitted Lesson 1 and the DD and I didn't do too badly. We are now moving on to Lesson 2 and semantic determinatives, which will be nice as far as giving us some more things we can read. So nice to be able to look through my copies of Kmt magazine and recognize some signs!

How'd everyone do on Lesson 2.1? DD and I didn't do too badly. Anyone else ready to move on to Lesson 3?

Re: Egyptian (Hieroglyph) Study Group
Well the move kinda put a damper on lesson 2.2 and 2.3. Well, 2.3 was postponed when my computer crashed. Really can't complain; for a $189 Chromebook to last six years, yeah, I guess that's good. Lesson 2.2 was in the middle of our move to Boston. We'll (still) living in a beautiful house with only our suitcases, and four beach chairs because we were hurting ourselves sitting on wood floors.
Started reading lesson 3 on Monday. Going through it slowly, lot of info in just a few pages. New Chromebook comes on Friday so I'll be looking forward to being back online at home. Hate doing Internet on my phone. Social media, ok, but anything like these forums or other sites I like, nah. Phone too tiny.
How's everyone else doing with lesson 3?

Re: Egyptian (Hieroglyph) Study Group
Lesson 3 is a doozy. Thank goodness we have some weeks to digest it, and thanks to the moderator who is providing study sheets to go with the lessons.
I jumped back into Memrise today to work the vocab. Still on lesson 1 in Memrise, but it is a good review. Had little chance to visit the site during this move, but things are starting to settle, so hope to work my way up to Lesson 3 in Memrise soon.
Anyone else still doing this?

Uuhh... So we're doing really badly and not keeping up. It honestly seems like a very reasonable pace... Unless you're doing it with a 10 year old who is mostly out riding his bike all day '-p

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Re: Egyptian (Hieroglyph) Study Group
And now I've switched to audit mode as well. This move to Boston has just taken too much time away from my language studies so I got terribly behind. They might be starting another beginner course in September, and we happen to already have the book, so I'll probably start that course when it begins. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll get you in contact with the administrator. The course will use the book How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphics by Collier and Manley.

Re: Egyptian (Hieroglyph) Study Group
I'm interested, but I see that GlyphStudy hasn't put up a new announcement for the September group on Facebook. If it is happening, what do I need to do to join? Just get a Yahoo account and send my name to the group administrator? I'll get the book as fast as I can once you confirm the study group is taking place.

I'm grateful to be rebuked in argument because then I learn something. I don't want to be wrong, but I'm so happy to be.

Sorry for intruding. I remember the project Finnisch mit extra Mühe, by a group of dedicated language learners, so I let you know that the Italian version of this book by Collier and Manley is available on AmazonIronMike wrote:The course will use the book How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphics by Collier and Manley.
