My thanks to everyone for the speedy and thorough answers. Since I would prefer to use a bookseller that is based within the USA but is not owned in whole or in part by Amazon, I will in the future probably go with one of the following URLs for my future purchases:

https://www.thriftbooks.com

https://www.alibris.com

https://www.bookfinder.com/?ref=bf_s3_hd_1

https://www.biblio.com/

Again, many thanks to all.

Speaking French in France for the first time has been THE highlight in my French learning journey this year. We arrived in Nice about 8 in the evening and we took a taxi to the hotel. After I told the taxi driver the address, he asked me, if I were from Belgium :-). He was so delighted speaking French with me and we talked for about twenty minutes about this and that. It was surprising to him that I not only could speak in complete sentences but also understand all what he was saying. At the end, he walked us to the hotel entrance, shook our hands and wished us a nice stay in Nice.

The lady at the reception asked immediately "English or French" and after my answer - we are in France, so let's speak French - she gave me a big smile and was somewhat relieved not to have to speak English. Everything went fine, again I had no problems to understand or speak French with her.

During our week I used every opportunity to speak French. Unfortunately, my husband got a very bad cold. So I went to the nearest pharmacy and there the pharmacist, an elderly man, was again soooo nice to me - he asked me about the symptoms, how long we would stay and then recommended a medicine. This was like a textbook-conversation!

Once we took a coffee in a brasserie, then hearing all the conversations and scraps of words around us gave me the feeling of being in the middle of a scene from my daily soap opera "Un si grand soleil", very funny experience.

Of course, I was not perfect, when I was lost, I just improvised somehow. I was not shy and was surprised how good my listening comprehension in real life actually is. The week went by quickly and back in Germany, I got a huge compliment from my husband. He didn't expect me to get along so well with French.

All this encouraged me to continue with my established learning regime, which I still really like. :!:

Of course I will post an answer there :D

Although I mainly use French-German grammar books, which are of no interest in this forum, I will recommend a monolingual French grammar.

Just a note to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Special greetings of course to Tom Gosse the originator of this group and who like many Orthodox Christians annually celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7. Thanks so much again for all your great help Tom!

We hope your medical issues are healing.

There but for a fortune, may go you or I …

King rencontre ensuite Lydia Tremblay, 41 ans.

I remember, as a child, stories of the E.B. Eddy Match Company.

Holiday greetings to all and a question.

I am on the last book of the trilogy of Marcel Pagnol’s story of his summers spent in the south of France: La Gloire de mon père, Le Château de ma mère, and Le Temps des secrets. They are about the simple life but use many words for which I can not find definitions:
Zerissons
Emperpignaner
Aludes-a type of bird?

I have of course tried Reverso, my own fat Collins Robert French Dictionary, wordreference website, and Larousse, and have come up empty handed. Does someone know of a definitive one-stop source I should go to for my word look ups?

Many thanks.
