Axon wrote:There's a defunct forum about Chinese languages with a handful of extremely interesting posts where a user goes to different parts of Southeast Asia and sees how far different Chinese dialects can get them. I found all of those fascinating, and they're kind of a model for my entries here. Same sort of thing when one of our users posted about using Cebuano in Cebu.

Do you have links to any of these posts? Would be interesting to read.

This is Whodathunkitz giving notes on Cebuano in Cebu.

The China Language forum seems to not be taking new registrations, and in any case it's virtually inactive. Here are some "reports from the field" threads from user amhoanna, who has a fairly eccentric writing style that usually requires basic knowledge of Indonesian, Mandarin, and Hokkien to fully decipher. There are more on that forum if you're interested.

Hoklo in Suratthani + Nakhon

Teochew in Southern Thailand

Cantonese in Vietnam

Hoklo on Mindanao

Since this thread was pretty well received, I actually had the idea of making a thread with amhoanna's posts all in one place, including footnotes to the best of my ability. I'll run that idea by the admins.
