Permit me to daydream a bit (I have no idea what my job situation will be in May), but if I was to fly into Bratislava for the gathering, then visit Italy or France and fly out from there, what would be the best train option to get to these places?

There are trains from Vienna at least... But Bratislava is a popular airport for lowcost airlines so it may be cheaper to fly (and faster obv).
Check out rome2rio.com :)
For flights there's http://www.flightconnections.com

LyricsTraining now has Finnish and Polish :)

Depends - check flights directly into Bratislava or Vienna.
I found that flying into Vienna was much cheaper for me, then taking the bus into Brat (5€, 20 min). Gets me downtown directly.

If you're flying in from Boston (or other US places) take a look at flights into Europe via Kayak.com. Probably the cheapest flights I've seen to Paris are in the 350€ range. That's pretty amazing. (Also check out the Wow airline website).

Yeah, at least less than one hour (45 minutes?) for a bus from Vienna to Bratislava. Last year it would have cost me around €1700-1800 to fly into Bratislava, and maybe one fourth (fifth?) of that into Vienna.

Just wanted to say, dream away! :D Dreaming is what helped get me to Pripyat (my best holiday so far!)

Ok, I wasn't sure if it was 20 min or 40 min. Memory....

I have put forward my presentation for this year's Polyglot Gathering. Unfortunately, I have decided to not do the Cesco Reale thing and speak 20 languages during my presentation. However, my proposal will be for a presentation in Spanish. In case they accept, I hope to see you all at my presentation. This is the first time I'm doing a presentation for people in a language other than Dutch and English in its entirety. (The last one was only partially in other languages).

Why not Chinese you ask? Because it'd be more preparation and hassle than it's worth, so maybe next year.

Trust me, I wouldn't ask. :) So although I don't speak Spanish hopefully I can come.

They extended the calls for talks by one week if anyone is interested in giving a speech?
