Polyglot Gathering in Bratislava 2018

Postby Brun Ugle » Fri Sep 01, 2017 5:57 am

They just announced that the Polyglot Gathering will be in Bratislava again. The dates aren't set yet, but they say it will be around the end of May, beginning of June again. I'll update this when they set the dates.

Who's planning to go? I hope I can. This time, I'll bring shorts. I thought I was going to die last time. I ended up going out to buy some.

Do you have any goals for your languages before then? How about other plans while you're in the area? There are lots of interesting places nearby. I loved spending a couple of days in Vienna last year. The bookstore was amazing!

I'm looking forward to hanging out with you all at the Goblin Pub again too. That was fun.

Just yesterday I set myself a tentative goal to pick up some Slovak in early 2018 - looks like it wasn't in vain. :) I'm definitely looking to come again, other circumstances allowing.

What are my plans? More dolmetscher.

Well it was nice in Bratislava although this time I know to fly into Vienna because it is cheaper. And I might take a couple of extra days to spend around there, and/or Budapest. Defo on the shorts! Personally I'll probably only do more French and some Italian maintenance. No Slovakian pain train for me!

Maybe we should do a LLorg meet-up in Vienna a couple days before the actual Gathering. Vienna is a wonderful city. I had a lot of fun there. Budapest was too noisy and chaotic for my tastes.

I think I'll finally be able to make one of these! I'll be living in Poznań so I might get there by some combination of buses and trains. Good to know I need to get the Slovak books out, too. :)

I'll definitely go again - the Slovak team did a splendid job, as did the German one, but the event was growing out of the space available at the hostel in Berlin. No such problems in Bratislava.

Probably improve my Czech, that'd be a good idea. My Slovak is crap, but they understand Czech, so I'll just improve what I have instead before I embark on Slovak. And refresh some of my weaker languages so I can actually use them. (Korean and Hungarian jump to mind).

Honestly, with the acclaim they got, they'd be stupid not to organize it again. The demand is massive and the other events of the type are also getting traction.

Mixed feelings - every time I say to myself: "Never again!" (before, during and after the trip). I'll probably join you next year, although I'd really prefer Berlin. I miss that atmosphere.
