A language learners’ forum

I had a phone conversation on Thursday with the recruiter about my preferences, and I told her the following:

1. under a two hour drive to the shore
2. slower-paced working environment
3. no night shifts
4. between New York and Maine
5. ethnically diverse area, as I want to learn languages

Her info is as follows:

1. NY requires licensure for MLS, so unless I take that exam, probably not.
2. They have found jobs for people in Vermont or New Jersey. Not exactly where I was looking. But I'm okay with that: I'll end up where I'm supposed to end up, and it'll be good. For more info on my beliefs, check out my blog.

There's also a Kinokuniya store in Edgewater, NJ.

Currently my car is being maintained, and they found stuff wrong with it. It's a 2004 Dodge Stratus with 79,000 miles: the timing belt and surrounding area needs to be replaced, and the brakes and surrounding areas. If I planned on keeping the car past the summer, the cost would be $ 1,600.00 This is supposing that it would pass the inspection of whatever state I end up in. So that is another consideration.

That's all I know for now.

Typical mileage for that (I'm guessing it's the normal sedan) is about twice what you've got on it; with typical mileage, blue book is about 2500$. Figure your car has 3-3.5k of value at most when you're thinking about what you'll spend on repairs, relocating, and then inspection.

My dad is in the auto repair business, thus the random info.

Although I have not lived in Letterkenny, I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and can vouch for most of this.

Is it a big concern getting a out-of-state car inspected and ready in a state with, say, California regulations? I've heard nightmarish stories of inspectors only want you to go to a certain repair shop, and you spend $$$$ on minute fixings, etc. Would they accept an inspection from an Idaho shop?
