Re: How many countries/cities have you travelled?
A slightly updated list with a few new countries:
Europe:
Netherlands*
Belgium*
Spain*
Romania*
Greece*
France
Germany
Luxembourg
Sweden
Denmark
Norway
Iceland
Austria
Switzerland
Italy
United Kingdom (but only England)
Czech Republic
Andorra
Vatican City
Hungary
Russia
Poland
Slovakia
(Belarus) - I spent all this time on a train. But it was ~24 hours.
North America:
Canada*
United States (quite a few states, about 10 or so I think?)
Asia:
China PR*
South Korea
(and technically North Korea as I stepped over the border at Panmunjeom)
This is by far not enough to satisfy my tastes, so I plan to add a lot more countries to this list (and add a lot more languages in order to speak to people from those countries). I've studied most of the languages of these countries though.

I haven't been to any new country in quite a few years now. Maybe my best chance for increasing the number is Scotland or Catalonia becoming independent.

In India people only seem to understand England. I was interviewing some potential students in Delhi once, and at another table one candidate was being told about Glasgow: "Is it in England?", "Yes, yes, England" she was assured... I've yet to have problems with forms though.
Most of my holiday travel has been around various parts of Britain and India. I've not got a great desire to travel elsewhere, but somehow academic conferences and other persuasions have taken me away from this island to more places than I thought: Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malta, Sweden, the Netherlands, USA.
(Israel proved to be "unlucky 13" - we were all booked to go this summer, but illness scuppered the whole plan.)

I haven't really travelled very much, but I have lived for several years in several places.
** more than a year
* more than 3 months
I guess I can add a star to Ireland* and if I can count "Northern Ireland" I can add a mention of that... Or UK if that is what I should call it.
I can't wait for summer; I want to add Scotland, England, Wales, and France to the list.
